I have tried alot of different reels including, Penn Conquers, Shimano Stradics, Shimano Sustains, Penn Sargus, Shimano Symtrees, Quantum Energys, and several other brands.
This year I have bought TWO Penn Conquer 4000s and a 1000 Shimano Stradic. I go fishing a lot and I am thinking about buying two Penn Battles or two Shimano Symtrees for friends and family to use. Which one should I buy.
I picked up a Battle over at Haddrells WA thanks to Scot and John and am pretty impressed with it so far. Very smooth and seems like it’s got a pretty good drag. Haven’t fished it too hard yet but I took it apart and looked at it and like what I saw.
I’d recommend picking up the Battle as I haven’t heard a single complaint about them.
Somebody told us Wall Street fell but we were so poor we couldn’t tell. Cotton was short and the weeds were tall but Mr. Obama gonna save us all
I just picked up a battle 3000 and a fierce earlier today. I can’t wait to see how they do! They seemed very solid when I was playing with them in the store!
We just got ours in to the CA…We have the 2000 up through the 5000… we also have the new Abu Veritas rods… partnerd up wiht a battle… look out fish… I can cast all day now
I’v been fishing the battles several times a week since late august and they have been fantastic so far.
I have 2 3000’s and 2 4000’s.
For the money the Battles are great. Smooth, cast well, good drag system.
I also have a conquer and I’m not sure that the price point is where I would purchase one; the Shimano Stradic is significantly cheaper and a VERY nice reel.
I would also check out the Pfleuger Supreme(149.99). AWESOME reel.
Another to check out is the Pfleuger Patriarch (199.99) very light, smooth…worth a look.
I have had great success with the Penn Battle spinning reels. I have been using the 3000 and 4000 size spooled with Spiderwire InvsaBraid 15-lb and 20-lb line. My clients caught 51 redfish on a couple of Battles last Satuday, strong with smooth drag. I suggest the 2000 and 3000 sizes for this time of year and the 4000 size in the warmer months. Good luck.
