Penn combo

What is the collective opinion on the Penn 550sg 7’ Slammer combo? I have two of them and am on the virge of getting two more. the two I have now I have only got one summer out of so far and so far I really like them. But my concern is the long run. How do they hold up over years of service? if anyone has any input I would appreciate it. Questions like this on this site have helped me spend my money a little smarter through the years.

My 550’s are going on 10 years old and dong just fine - the slammers are long gone, but that is due to me, not the rods… they were holding up just fine otherwise.

Thanks, I am very used to fishing with cheap garbage and I know this is mid grade stuff but money is money and I need them to last me.So it is good to hear that you have had good luck with them and thanks for the ■■■■■■■■.

I bought 2 penn sargus reels about 4 years ago. 1 broke completely and the other with a little repair from Haddrell’s is working but has a lot of paint chipping. I just recently bought 2 shimano solstace reels. Bought dad a penn fierce reel and we both love it and it’s cheaper. Good Luck!

-There are two types of fisherman those who fish for sport and those who fish for fish.

I have 2000’s to 6000’s Penn Fierce’s great reels. I intentionally treat the first one like dirt, never clean it, left out in the weather. It still works great after two years, I might clean it now.

Check out the Penn battle combo Haddrells had the 3000 combo’s on sale for $99.

I have a 550SSG, I have recently bought a Battle 2000, 3000, and 4000. The Fierce and the Battle are the same basic reel with more bearings and metal parts, Battle being the upgrade. The Battle’s are so much better, smoother, cast easier, lighter than the SSG. I would not buy another SSG, but I’m also not going to throw it out. Battle Combo is the way to go at Haddrell’s bought a 3000 combo last week.
Just my 2cents.
