Whats up with this, i bought a new penncv4000 and on the foot theres a sticker with CHINA on it… i thought all penn’s were made in the USA…
shakesphere and penn are now one.the reels have gone to crap.
Get the Sargus, still made in China but a much better reel IMHO

Reels are pretty strange. I’m totally new to all this offshore stuff this year. I bought some of those cheap Shakespeare reels initially and figured I’d use them until failure (for bottom fishing). I haven’t been able to kill one yet. I don’t think it makes that much difference on what you use until you start to have failure. I use some of those Penn 330’s (cheap enough) and they work great too. I still use the Snake$^&* reels bottom fishing sometimes and they just work, even on big gags and ARS. ??? I know I hear folks downing gear all the time but I guess until I have failures then I just won’t get off the big bucks for “better” gear. I just don’t have experience with failure yet. I’m not scared of China stuff. China makes everything - even rubber dog poop, and it works great too. ???

“U.S. Reels” have one of them pretty little stickers on the reel seat as well. Not sure you can get away from China stuff anymore
I assume you are talking about the Penn Captivas? I like the looks of them but have not heard to many good things about them. I wish I could recall where I was when I was told but, one outfitter stopped carrying any of the mid to lower tiered Penns because problems they had experienced.
I’ve been using one for about a year now. I like it and think it’s worth what I paid for it. But it did have a “made in China” sticker.
