Nasty Dog was nice enough to send me a Penn Torque 25ldn2, and a Bluewater Carnage rod combo. I have put this rig through a ton of abuse, jigging one AJ after another while trying to get some groupers, live baiting grouper, jigging blackfin, and even a few dolphin off of a live bait drift line. The combo has become a favorite for dropping on triggers and B-liners. In high gear the retrieve is awesome, in low gear you can winch a grouper out of the rocks. I have the reel spooled with 65# braid and an 80# fluro top shot. The rod has great back bone! I prefer it to the more expensive trevalla, as it seems to have more lifting power. A little soap and water after every trip and the finish still looks like it did out of the box. Would I recommend this to friends…absolutely! Would I buy another…already got two more! I wrote this because I stated “I would never use Penn again” It seems that this combo and the Battle reels are holding up the the heavy use that we put them through. So if you are shopping for a great jigging combo, check it out!
if only you had a Penn hat on that could be a promo shot…

I’ve got some Penn Torque TRC Gamefish Series rods that they don’t seem to sell anymore. They are awesome for spinning reels going after bigger fish and have plenty of backbone.

I bet it would whoop ass on a halibut… My Baja Specials are doing a fine job, even in the 600ft we pulled a Yelloweye Rockfish out of this morning.
The Fathoms are solid reels too. About half the guides at the lodge I’m at troll and bottom fish with the FTH25LW and have nothing but good things to say. If I were to get another set of bottom fishing reels for guests, it would be the FTH40LW full of 80lb. I’ve seen that reel pull up multiple 100+ lb Halibut.
Those Bluewater Carnage rods are great for the price! I enjoyed mine but had to switch them out for Trevalas because the reel seat on the BWC wouldn’t fit the Bajas!
Rapchizzle what model BWC were you trying to put the Baja on?

Just put the Baja on a BWC because i have never heard of this before. Reel foot fits nicely inside the Fuji reel seat. The casting models all use the same size reel seat.

It was the 80-130 BWC. The curved reel seat on the BS wouldn’t fit into the butt end of the reel seat and I couldn’t tighten it own to get purchase on the reel itself. It’s hard to explain over the internet but perhaps mine were just off or something!
