I’m lookin for a tarpon mainly and shark reel. I have 2 Penn mariner boat rods. Kudos to nasty dawg for helping me out bit I still have questions. I’m looking into the Penn fierce one 70 and one 6000 or two 7s. Does Shimano make an equivalent of the spinfisher or fierce in the price range that people have good experience with? And because their Penn rods does that mean it would be best to stick with Penn reels?
Thanks
I’m a high class redneck.
Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.
Have you looked at the Penn battle? I have some 4000s and a 3000 and they are great on my inshore stuff. They are pretty beefy and make quite a bit of drag. I use two daiwa bg60 and two Penn 850 for tarpon , but if I were in the market for that size reel I would be checking out the battles. I have never really been a fan of Penn rods, but they have been around a while and have caught plenty of fish.
Sorry, I got the fierce mixed up with the conquer, thought I was giving you some money saving advice. From what I have heard the battles and fierce are very similiar with the excepion of the drag. The battle has the ht-100 drag washers and a nicer finish. For a while, the bass pro shop in macon, Ga had factory refurbished daiwa black gold 60 spinners in the clearence section for 50 bucks, they are pretty solid. Mine have served me well over the years.
