Penn Rod???

I recently got a Penn Battle 4000 and am looking for a rod to put it on. Has anyone experienced the Penn Legion Inshore rods? I know folks will say St. Croix, Shimano, etc but, I have a source for Penn stuff so it is hard to beat the price I can get.

I honestly haven’t tested it out personally, but I have seen a couple people recommending them on other discussions. Though, in my personal opinion, unless if Penn has made some kind of spectacular change in their inshore rods, I wouldn’t recommend it. Dont get me wrong I know this is debatable, just my opinion.

Most of my Penn SS reels are on Ugly Sticks from 4200 to 5500’s.

I’d rather fish than eat.

Had the same question up earlier in the year. Most suggested the 7’ Star Stellar lite and that’s what I went with. This is by far my favorite setup now for Reds, Trout and Sheeps. Regardless, you’re gonna love the Battle. Good fishing and Happy New Year to all…

I have used a bunch of different Penn rods and currently have an Allegience. It’s a good rod that I use for yellowtailing and snapper fishing. One thing I take into consideration when buying a rod is the warranty. Haddrells offers an over the counter warranty for lots of Star and Shimano rods, unlike your source for Penn stuff. I too can get most stuff at a deal but always buy my rods local due to the warranty. For the $120 for my Shimano Teramar or Star Stellar Lite rods from Haddrells, I can take them back if broken and exchange for a brand new one. That alone is worth the higher cost of retail for me.

Dfreedmon,

Not trying to stir the pot but the Legion inshore rods are just as good as any Shimano, Star, St.Croix, etc. If you want a super light rod with great actions try one out. I would recommend the LEGIN815S70. The Legions were designed to be fished with a battle in terms of cosmetics balance and price.

Cam,
Yes PENN has changed the direction on their rod program just like they did with their reels. We launched the Legion series this year to go with the Battles. The Legion family has 19 rods and has actions that range from Trout to Tarpon actions. If anyone has any questions on PENN rods please let me know.
