PENN TORQUE SURF RODS

Might be a little late in asking the question, but I just purchased 3 of the torque 11 foot spinning surf rods and matched them up with the new 750 spinfisher V boy do they look sharp. I like the 6 inch shorter distance between the end of the handle of the spinning than the casting which to me makes it easier to cast. But that is the only difference in the 2 that I can tell. does anybody know if I am sacrificing casting distance by going with the spinning mode; and not the casting model besides the obvious model difference?

Yes and no. If you have a nice casting reel and you know how to use it then yes a spinning setup will sacrifice distance. If you are not really good with a casting reel and use braid on the spinning reel then there will not be much of a difference.

Hairball is right. I am proud to say I was on the team developing those rods before leaving PENN in Dec 2009, and they turned out quite nice. Nasty Dawg can give you all the info you could want on the TRQ Surf rods. He’ll probably chime in at some point soon since he’s a regular on here.

Like hairball says, it depends. If you have a magged abu on a mojo surf rod, your gonna get 150+ yards on your cast, however, if your not used to conventional reels, and casting them, then your definitely better off using a spinning model. And either way it doesn’t matter, those are some awesome setups for the surf down here!

I hope so Stuck I purchased 2 more of the Torque 7 footers today and paired them with the spinfisher 5500 . They are a little different than the 11 footers but I am sure they will do the job!

You definitely have some awesome setups, you’ll be set for a long time! Dont worry about it, you can catch literally anything in the surf down here except some huge sharks!

No Stuck don’t tell me that, I want at least one big shark.
