People PMing here's what I been doing!

I ahve gotten serval pm’s from people asking how I have been fishing lately. Ok I am not one to keep everything to myself. I like everyone to enjoy the sport of fishing. I am always willing to share my spots and what I have been doing so others can have fun.

Words of caution seriously!
Make sure everything is strapped down in yuor yak, even your rods!
Make sure you walk your kayak out past the beach waves and back in past them. These kayaks dont ride the waves well as my kayak has fliped twice in 2 days. Once on tuesday when the tourist bring it in flipped it in the surf while i was bringing in the king and once today when i tried to ride a small wave in. Lucky both times everything was strapped down. Also KNOW your limits please. I am a young looking 30 in my best physical condition right now and Today was 15-20mph winds and a strong current, it would take me 20-30 min to go 200-300 yards against wind and current today. You could end up miles down the beach with no way to get back to your vehicle, at best. Lastly watch the teeth!!

Things I use:
Small 4 foot radius cast net i can throw sitting down
Small 2 foot long gaff
If you dont have good reels buy them, I had to learn the hard way lol snap snap snap.
Ball bearing swivels twice today I had to retie both lines cause of twists and tangles
42# test tournament grade wire. Dont buy the cheap wire I learned snap.
Plenty of liquids it gets hotter and hotter
Battery powered water recirculating LIVE BAIT WELL. Dont plan on dragging something its just too much drag and you cant track the boat straight.

My king rig/leader:
Ball bearing swivel tied to 42# wire with a haywire twist, about 2 feet of wire then a 5/0 bait hook twisted on about 8 inches up front the other end of the wire at the other end of the wire I have a #4 treble hook tied on with another haywire twist.

I will hook the largest menhaden i can through the nose with the bait hook and then slide the treble hook into just behind the dorsal fin of the haden, do it long ways no

It’s very refreshing to have such a friendly fisherman as you are on this fishing site. I bet it’s just good upbringing.

The fishing season is always shorter than you think so, get back out there and keep having fun. You’re all over them this month!

Really good pst right there. I yak fish every singel week and you made some important points.

  1. know your limits
  2. be aware of what you’re doing. (you didn’t come out and say it, but it was the gist of your post)
  3. above all, be safe. tie your gear, wade out past the breakers, tire the fish, gaff for a kill shot, wade in past the breakers.
BTW, if you want to kill a fish FAST when you get it to the yak, squirt some rotgut gin or vodka in it’s gills… 20- 30 seconds and it’s dead as a hammer.

Great work, love to fish with you sometime.

I’ve used the vodka trick on tuna- amazing how quick it works.

Once again, I nominate Eric as 2009 CF.com Sportsman of the year!

Ditto on Sportsman of the year, this guy has it together. Again, thanks for being a nice guy rather than the “crap” we’ve been puttong up with lately.
