Quite a few people have been asking me about white perch; however, with the MSC and SBC, I haven’t been able to try them until today. I took my father(aka. “Diddy”) and we jigged a bunch in short order during a break in the weather. We fished 2 humps between Siesta Cove and Twin Islands that were 30-35 feet deep and caught over 40 with the Berry Spoons. Diddy kept 21 with several around a pound before the squalline ran us off the lake around 2.
Nonetheless, it was great to have him in the boat for the first time since early January. He’s had a tough year with 2 knee replacements at nearly 76 years of age. Diddy has been looking forward to jerkin’ some perch for a while… Great short outing!
Glad you got him on the water. Nobody more fun to fish with than him. He’s a tough old rascal for sure, and I’ve never seen anyone better with a Berry spoon. I thought he was a little older, maybe almost 77. Don’t tell him I said that!!
Those bad knees are history now so he should start looking a lot younger.
I’m guessing the spoon fishing up my way will be pretty tough with all of the chocolate milk colored water. Might call cousin and see what he’s doing Sunday afternoon. Water should be OK down on his end of the lake.
Fog and his Dad are both very, very good when it comes to finding fish with a depthfinder and interpretting what they see. Guess it runs in the family.
I fished with his Dad in the small boat many times. Whenever he stopped the boat it was a safe bet that the fish were there and hungry.
Most definitely! We mark them with the finder. When you zoom in 2x, the perch appear much like stripers along the bottom. Sometimes, they’re so tightly packed that your finder will read a double bottom. Spot lock and jig away!
