Going tomorrow for perch. Last week did good between masadonia and the island but went a looked today a water is way to muddy. Might try the other side of Billy D. Any suggestions or spots on where you have been catching them?

Come on down to Ballentine to perch jerk! I’m taking Spoonmaster and Diddy in the morning. The perch are all over between Susie Ibert and the water plant. Look on humps and points in 30-40 fow.

We’ll be out there around 9. Look for my Xpress and stop by to say hello if you come down. There’s plenty of perch to go around; so I’m a lot more open with info than I am with stripers:smiley:

LM, The perch were scattered all over at Monticello the last time I was over there, which was in November. If I were you I’d launch from the upper landing because the side landing can get bad if the wind gets up. The side of the lake, away from the side landing, would be a good place to look. There were a lot of fish deeper than 35’ when I was there. I was in a LM tourney then and caught perch on some really big, 3 1/2 ounce spoons. I’m pretty sure they’ll eat up the white 1/2 and 3/4 ounce Berrys and the 3/8 and 3/4 ounce chrome CCs. Good luck!

Oh yeah, we won the tournament that day.

Everybody please be careful on Murray!! The lake is as high as I have ever seen it with lots of floating trees, logs and other debris in the water.

How did you do Fogman?

Great! Susie and Salem Point in 36-43 fow. 60 perch, 2 largies with one 7-8 pounds(released), 3 8-10 pound cats, 5 keeper stripers(22-26 inches), and a host of shorts. We had some serious fun! Here are some pics:

Here’s the big largemouth. Apparently, we can’t post more than 2 pics in a post.

Fog, You should say what size cooler you have to give some reference to how big the fish really were. The picture doesn’t do them justice. It was a fun day for me. I just wish that other largemouth had survived. No doubt we showed well over 100 fish daylight today, all with the spoons. I told one guy with a bass boat, how deep the big largemouth was, but I don’t think he believed me. Crazy day. Went out for a white perch roundup and caught some nice deep stripers too.
LM how was Monticello?

Spoon, that’s a 100 quart Coleman Extreme.

Fog, I’ve got six more of the good spoon, I lost yesterday, on order now. If you want, I’ll be sure to put your name on one of them and even put the “secret red treble hook” on for free. Let’s be sure not to tell anyone how good those red hooks work. OOPS!

What a day fogman! Caught about 30 at Monticello all together… Problem was almost every single one if them were tiny. ended up keeping 6 perch and 2 cats. What spoons do you use? All we use are berry spoons wondering what else can get em.

I was jerkin’ the 1/2 ounce pearl Berry with silver prism tape. I did occasionally jig the big Ben Parker when I marked stripers but only caught a 20 incher. My 2 keepers and big largie were caught on the Berry. Spoon is referring to a glow spoon of which I don’t know the name. He caught a bunch with it and might clue you in. It seemed very effective:smiley:

LM check out the Real Image spoons at Cabelas. They are currently sold out and the ones I ordered are supposed to ship in a week or two. The 1/2 ounce glow color was real popular yesterday.
It’s a good idea to have an assortment of spoons by manufacturer, size and color. If I’m by myself I’ll usually have 6 different rods with a different spoon tied on each one. Never know which will get bit the best. Keep trying different colors throughout the day. Similar to crappie fishing with different jigs, each day the color preference can change. I have spoons from 1/4 ounce up to 3 1/2 ounces, but I rarely fish anything heavier than 3/4 ounce for the perch. As noted above, I’m a big fan of red treble hooks.
If I could only have one spoon to take fishing, year 'round, it’d be the 1/2 ounce Berry like Fogman was using yesterday. I’ve caught perch, stripers, catfish, shucks just about every fish that swims in Murray with them.
