Perch

Can anyone point me to some areas to try jigging for perch? I have had limited success the last month or so and my wife told her family that I would fry FRESH fish for them Sunday night. My son and I are using this as an excuse to fish as much as possible this weekend  I don’t need any specific spots, just a general area to start would be great. Thank you!

Know some boys who caught 101 around dreher last week and 77 yesterday, Goodluck!

Crystal Lake has been producing great numbers in 35-50 feet.

I caught some last Sunday afternoon in the elbow area, almost all bit small 3/8 ounce spoons. They were scattered between 17’ and 26’ deep. Had a nice striper too.

Since you’re meat fishing, I’d drop down some minnows as well. I’ve only fished for them a handful of times but had a couple of times where we were saved by minnows when they weren’t hitting the spoons real well.

It was a tough day of fishing for me and a friend. We managed to keep 44 perch today, but had to work to get them. The fish were moving a lot and a whole bunch of them must have had lockjaw. We marked lots of fish that simply would not bite the spoons. Most of the fish we caught were in the elbow area between 17’ and 21’. Marked lots of fish deeper than that but couldn’t get them to bite. I think we would have done a lot better if the water was a little clearer.

I went out yesterday as well for a few hours in the afternoon. Only got about 15 on a variety of small spoons…most all on the smaller side. Had some minnows too, but they weren’t interested. I think I got 2 on minnows.

I think a lot of what I was marking were some schools of really tiny fish. I would see something was messing with the minnow, but when I would check, it would still be on and you could see something had hit the tail end of the minnow. Couldn’t figure out what was going on until I finally belly snagged a couple of 5" perch with the spoon.

Fished about 28’-35’ just off Suzy Ebert and also straight out from Ken Hyatt’s house. I know many may not recognize his name and he probably hasn’t lived there in 25 years, but I don’t know what it’s called these days. LOL

Thank you all for the suggestions. We had to work for them a little, but ended up catching enough for dinner. Best part was spending the day with my favorite fishing buddy!

Awesome…looks like he had a blast. Perfect kind of fishing for kids.
