Trolled all morning in scattered weeds with nothing happening. Decided to pull up on some bottom numbers in 180 since I had two new guys on board that just wanted to catch a fish. Threw a jig down to see what was happening and looked over the gunnnel and saw a huge dolphin swim under the boat. Put the jig rod in the holder and turned around to grab the pitch rod out of the rocket launcher. As soon as I turned around to grab some squid realized something was wrong. Looked down and realized in my rush I had managed to get a treble hook from one of the plugs that was on another rod in the rocket launcher stuck in my forearm. About that time the rod with the jig that I stuck in the rod holder starts screaming! I make the decision to break off the plug from the leader and grab the jig rod. End up fighting the dolphin with the plug stuck in my
arm and luckily got it landed. Got the fish in the box, pushed the hook through my arm and cut the barb and pulled it out (no harm no foul) it ended up being my personal best dolphin!
Nice work on both the fish and hook removal! Congrats on the PB
Nice job. Way to stay on the fish.

Great read!!! We pulled a deep diver while cruising in from the 226 Tuesday while tying up bottom rigs before we headed for some livebottom and hooked up on a nice bull. He ended up coming off after a decent fight about 30 yards behind the boat. Was an odd brown/orange colored deep diver and definitely didn’t expect a dolphin to hit it.

Nice work. That’s the only decision for a true fisherman
Years ago, my brother and I were fishing off a bridge near Key West when about 50 giant tarpon swam under the bridge. We immediately hookup with two 150#ers. Of course, they broke off after a great fight. Same thing again when we put lines back out. Mt brother got so excited running back and forth over bridge that he stuck a big hook in his leg. He said “Take me to the hospital.” I said “are you crazy. The tarpon are biting.” Finally, I conceded and took him to the hospital. To my knowledge, that is the only time I stopped fishing when BIG fish were biting.

Good stuff. What’s that hat about?

Btodag it’s the hat for my company. I own a food truck here in Charleston.
The whole scenario was fairly comical other than the hook through the arm. Got really lucky and they were small trebles on a casting plug and not the beefy ones on our trolling plugs.

Unfortunately no! I’ve gotten my self twice this year so far, been fishing my whole life and I’ve hooked myself more this year than the whole time I’ve been fishing. I do have a picture of the fly I put through my thumb a few months ago though ha
