I’m sure that some of you may have your opinions regarding the quality (pros/cons) of pflueger rods/reels. I haven’t had much experience with them. But, recently I have had experience with their customer service. I have to say, it’s top notch!!
This past January, my wife surprised me with a pflueger medalist rod/reel combo for my birthday. She purchased it at Haddrell’s West Ashley after their salesman recommended it. I hadn’t used it much this year, mostly using it when fishing with lures. Just about a month ago, I set it up with cut bait looking for some reds in the grass. As it happens, the hook snagged on some grass. Repeated pulling didn’t free the line (braid). I grabbed the line with my hand to help extract the line from the grass, as I pulled down on the line from the rod tip, snap, the tip of the rod broke off! The next day, I took the rod back to Haddrells and they told me that I would have to contact pflueger directly for warranty service (1 yr. warranty). Or they (Haddrells) could put a new tip on it for me. Rather that going to the hassle of dealing with a company about a return, I had Haddrells put on a new tip. That took a total of 15 min and $7. The very next week, I was finishing up my day of fishing and went to secure the hook on the rod by pulling it down and attaching it to the loop at the bottom of the rod and snap, it broke again, this time about 12" from the top!
THis time, I went to the pflueger web site, found their warranty info and directions for handling claims. The directions were straight forward: 1) provide copy of receipt, 2) picture of damage, 3) description of how damage occurred. I didn’t have the receipt, but sent them a picture of the broken rod and a description of how it happen. That was approximately 2 weeks ago.
Today, I received via UPS from pflueger not only a new rod, but a rod/reel combo! I also received an email stating that the medalist rod that broke is no longer being made, so they sent to me an upgraded model, the purist 7 ft reel/rod combo.
