Yo phin, on the video where you’re makin bait w/ sabiki, is that a yellowtail snapper in there with that bait in the water? Was that off Charleston? Do Yellowtails get caught much here?
Have to use a little more finesse than what we typically do to “bottom fish,” but yes there are yellowtails off SC. They are typically on exotic type spots that have other more tropical fish. They are on spots where there’s some microclimate stuff going on at the bottom also. Usually they’re in the gulf stream, and they move fairly quickly as a school. B liners move around too, but yellowtails will show up like mahidolphin and then disappear. Haven’t tried to feed them and catch them behind the boat, but I’m sure it can be done as they do down south. I’ve only caught a few on rod and reel here.
The baits in that video were bluerunners/rainbow runners/hornbellies/bumpers/hardtails… several dif. species and the names depend on who you ask!
