but we took Otay out in a flat ocean yesterday. Cleared the Jettys at 4:45 and ran to the GTH at 28mph. Beautiful ride out. did not get spalshed once the entire day. Lines in at just before 7:00 in 140’. We ran some artificials and a couple ballyhoo on pink and whites to start and the only thing to show for the first hour and a half was a cuda, gaffed and released. Then we decided to pull the artificials in and clear some weeds. The way back weed was a blackfin tuna, still alive but obviously dragged for a while. Didn’t complain as I did not expect to catch tuna yesterday. Then it was a little slow for a while and we went 1 for 2 on peanut dolphin and pulled in what would have been the largest king I’ve ever caught…but the back half of him was missing. Weighed the front half on handheld scale and it was 20#, so I imagine whole thing would have been near 40#. Again slow going for a while, tried to drop bottom rigs on some nice releif we found in 150’, but this produced nothing (where’s Phin when you need him?). Then back to trolling, got a nice strike, but did not seem like it was a very big fish, kept the spread out and speed up and was very surpirised to see a 50-ish # wahoo. I did a bad gaff job, in 1 side and out the same side and he cut the mono leader while still out of the boat, but I wrangled him in the boat, thankfully. He obviously made our day. Bottomed out my 50# handheld scale. Last fish was a nice 15-20# dolphin at 2:00, boated her and called it a day. Ran in in nice ocean at 38mph and only burned 97 gallons of gas all day. (had to throw that in for the mercury nay-sayers) I left my camera at home, but will add some pics later
glad you had a fun day.

MCM I’ll keep inviting you guys until you can, hard to find a crew on weekdays sometimes, but with autopilot, it’s like having an extra man, except one that’s broke and won’t pitch in for gas
