Mud and I skipped the coal tressel and launched at riverfront park. The old pier looked great for sheepshead, possibly better, but no sheeps landed. Only one small flounder and a giant …something breaking me off under the pier.
Jordan, if you have one of those handheld radios, Might be a good idea to make a call on 16 and let them tugs know you are crossing. Some company would be a plus, and keep an eye on the wind.
yea, I wussed out today.
A picture of cut’s… “Hobbit’s doormat”, and some…
don’t bother with a paddle here, hands only!

Sucks to hear that the park area wasn’t so great today because that was my backup plan if no one wants to go with me on Sunday. I don’t have a radio but I will put one on my wish list. It looks kinda risky leaving your hatch open like that on your kayak in those pictures. I take it you would close it if you were making a crossing?
Thanks for the pictures. It’s always fun to try and find out people’s favorite spots from the background.

We thought so too! Definitely a place for Power Pro and a tight drag on a med-heavy rod, that is, as far as the big boys go. Its a maze in there and loaded with oysters.

Is that “Pier Alpha” as in Weapons Station “Pier Alpha”?
Is there room in this class for one more?
At the mouth of Noisette creek, correct me if I am wrong? Someone told me that was the name of it.
Planning on trying again today across from Riverfront park.
Hey scott, did you guys smash any of those oysters up under there? If not, try taking a small sledge and busting a few up everyso often. Gets those sheeps going crazy!

Dave, this how it went;
Scot calling me…David, you want some filders…then I replied…sure
We get to the park, he puts filders in my bucket and lets me take his folding shovel with me…hmmm. Off we go, place looks like sheepshead! I start fishing for sheeps and knocking off oysters as I go…no hits, same crab for about a hour. So whats Scot doing…not fishing for sheepshead, he’s got a bucket of minnows and getting all the hits. Eventually he gave in and gave me a couple of minnows. Next time I’m going to throw my trap out behind our shop and get my own bait!

2nd try and we are improving. Mud actually caught fish and he was very proud. Total was 5 trout, 2 @ 18"; 2 garfish, 1 sm flounder.
Big tug came by and gave us heck of a ride, somebody got cut up on the oysters. We also tried the other side of Cooper with no luck.
Are you catching and releasing? If not where you storing the 18" ers to keep em fresh till you get home?

arch, we didn’t keep any fish. Walmart has a nylon cooler with a plastic insert. discard the insert, put ice(now collapsible) in it and you can stuff it in your hatch. Keep in mind you want to keep your fish on ice and not cooking inside your boat. Save that for when you get home.

Gar??? I have sworn a couple of times of the past few years that i have seen gar in saltwater, but i thought they were only freshwater fish? I saw one last year @ Yonges Island in a creek. Is this common or just the occasional lost fish?
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. </font id=“size2”>
I see them in the Cooper WELL south of Bushy park all the time… I thought I sw a good sized one right there near drum island last summer…
Paddle faster boys… I hear banjo music!
Mudrock,
Thanks for the tip, will go get one. I have room behind me too on the deck for a cooler as well, just not sure I want it above deck or in the big forward hatch.
Oh, and correct my fuzzy memory if its wrong, but you dont want them soaking in cold water do you? wont they get mushy?
