Pier Point Landing

So just wondering I live close to the Pier point landing, living in Charleston 3 years and this is my first year with a boat.Been on Lake James in N.C. all my life, so I am in no way used to dealing with tidal waters. So my question is will I have any problems using the Pier Point landing in my 1720 Key West, can I get in and out at low tide? Thanks in advance for the help.

You better have four wheel drive. The landing drops off at low tide. If you put in back it down towards the big pine tree on the drivers side of the ramp. Back it down at an angle towards the ashley river and you will miss the drop off.

I wouldn’t bother with this. I lived within 2 minutes of this ā€œlandingā€ for 5 years and owned a 16 ft boat for most of that time…I took the drive to Leeds, Wappoo, Limehouse, etc. In my opinion it’s only good for a kayak launch or maybe launching a jetski at high tide.

Thanks for the feed back.

my sister lived in those parsonage apts right there next to it for 12 years, her husband is a boat captain… he has a jon boat and a hightide for inshore fishing and he never used that landing

good crabbing off of that little dock though!

I’m a WAOMC member, that’s where I launch… basically across from Limehouse, so I don’t have to deal with the summer Limehouse fiasco…

'bout time

He is talking about ā€œPierpont Landingā€, right?

I live right next door to the ramp. I use it a good bit w/ not much of an issue. It’s best to only use it at the top ends of the tide. The tides rip thru there pretty hard too. If I were you I would use Leeds ramp. A lot easier to launch for novice dealing with current. Hope that helps…

Good feed back, I put in at Leeds’s ave. this past Friday morning, it is a good ramp, just a little taken back when I came in that afternoon and say how many people were drinking beer right at the ramp and driving. YIKES a little alarming. I know in N.C. at the lake you definitely kept the beer on the DL until out of site. lol.

They are idiots. Cops are on that ramp almost 24/7.

Speaking of Leeds, what’s up with all the junk accumulating up in the marsh? It used to be just that one sail boat that couldn’t anchor to save his life, but now there’s a boat and a floating shack up in the marsh. The boat was anchored out in the middle of the river until it came loose. Looks abandoned now.

Someone uses that landing. We went last week to put in some kayaks and there were two coolers full of rotting shrimp on the bank. It was nasty.

Seems like it has become the new eyesore dumping grounds since it is getting crowded near to city marina where the other floating hazzards are… I think its time DNR steps up and stops this practice!!

A bad day fishing is much better than a good day at work.

I put in at this landing a good bit, but I have a 14’ jon boat. I would not use it with your size boat unless it was HIGH tide. Also it is a solid ride to the river making the drive time to Leeds and getting out about the same.

The derelict boats in that area are out of hand and folks need to be getting fined hard for it. Have you guys seen the pontoon boat out there? I am not sure what the guy is going for but to each is own I guess.
