Just curious…went to fish Mt.Pleasant pier by boat…pulled up to my favorite spot…and as I went to cast(toward the pier)I noticed two rods leaning, but not in water yet, on the rail. This guy comes walking over from the other side with a cast net in hand and tells me he was here first. I initially told him " but you are not fishing yet" and he said I will be…so I left…Any jurisdiction on that situation?
I think you are technically legal. With that being said, I liken what you were doing to the people fishing on the boat ramp dock that won’t get out of your way when you are trying to launch or pick someone up. Yes, they are probably legal too, but there’s plenty of other places to fish. Especially with a boat.

I have to agree with bellyup - nothing that says you cant fish the fishing pier from a boat (I think?) but its not cool IMO. Bad ju-ju.

You ask for opinion so,…
It’s hard for me to comprehend that you even ask the question?

elad3, I guess “legally” I can put my boat in at the same time as you. And then “legally” I can follow you to your fishing spots and “legally” anchor right on top of you. And “legally” start throwing my cast net where you intend to pitch your bait. And “legally” crank up the music and “legally” chat away at you all day if I feel like it.
You are just trying to ask a ridiculous question (like I just did) to be funny… right?!
I wonder if your the same jackass I saw there a couple weekends ago. Some ahole insisted on gettin right up on my lines where I had to move them. What’s your deal? Gotta show off your boat to the tourists? I have a boat and like to fish the pier bc its less chasin around. Don’t quite under stand the mentality.

Elad you may want to check the fishing regulations. I think it does say in there somewhere that you may not fish within X number of feet of a fishing pier like folly or mt p.

why on earth would you want to fish the pier by boat? I own a boat explicitly so i don’t have to deal with those yahoos.
that being said. cut those guys a break. they don’t have the options you do.
elad I think the regulations are you can’t ANCHOR within 50 ft of the pier, but I think a lot of rules come into play when your close to it, but fair warning there is a enough rebar around that pier to sink a small ship if your not careful, if you have an aluminum boat and aren’t worried about destroying a prop, then go for it haha

Ever been hit with a three ounce weight? Sometimes it’s better just to find another spot. Glad it was a kind enough parting for you this time, we gotta keep our heads out there.
shut up and listen…you might learn something
Cant pass this up…I arrived very early on a specific tide hoping to beat the pier crowd out. I did not notice the leaning rods until after I anchored 40 yards away and was getting ready to sling…I threw cause I did not initially see person …after about 5 mins here he comes with cast net in hand thats when the conversation began… I left. Dont think a " Jack ass " would have done that. Floater why ?..okay specific tide, bait, week,= Flounder for the past 10 years…about 20 yards away from pier… Buttolope…easy on me big guy…I have enough courtesy not to do what your “Jack ASS” did…and have enough commen sense to not accuse/assume someone as you did out of thousands of boats…Do the math…Boat 40 yards away…cast 20…20 left to pier…both of us could have worked it out because I could have cast opposite side of my boat or bow/stern…But I did not know where he wanted to fish…so I left…Perhaps I should have given this explicit info initially and maybe avoided subjecting myself to experts of ridicule and uneducated assumptions…
I think the point is you shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
You shouldn’t have to ask the question of “jurisdiction”.
Okay…Santiago…not trying to be smart a##…really …how far away do you think would be considered adequate…You saw I was 40 yards at anchor…
There are plenty of places to catch fish.
I understand that you moved after being asked…but you also said you saw rods “leaning” but not deployed.
You asked a question and you don’t like the answer. You are fortunate enough to own a boat…use it.
edited to add…And I don’t think you’re a “jackass”…you did the right thing by moving on. But why ask about your “jurisdiction” on the internet? It obviously upset you…
Most of the folks on the pier don’t have a boat or are now too old to run a boat. It’s the only decent place for them to fish. Fishing s “fishing pier” from a boat is uncool no matter how you do it.

you own a boat … go somewhere else
people on the pier pay to use it and they shouldnt have to deal with people who have unlimited places to fish b/c they have boats.
if you want to fish structure go across the river on the other side of drum island and fish the old burnt out railroad bridge. should be adequate. otherwise expect pier fisherman to be pissed at you
it’s really not rocket science
