Sad times.

Just saw the article on FB .End of an era! Even the one on Edisto!! Sad times indeed.

local since, well…it aint local no more

Seems to be happening alot, the big getting bigger by swallowing the small…the small just cant compete anymore…

Too bad, I was always a Pig shopper but there few left in Columbia and they are kind of old and dingy. We just had one close a couple miles from my house. Not really a Bilo kind of guy.

The one on Folly hasn’t been opened that long. What was it, 2007?

my guess either they were not making money
or they got a big offer.
when publix came some Pw people said we will drive them back to Florida, but that did not happen…
the mount pleasant PW across from Royall hardware about 5 years ago had filthy mens rest room, cracked mirror, sink pulling off the wall, black moldy grout, dirty floor, were they clueless?
I am surprised they lasted as long as they did?

No Way. The one by Sol Legare Rd. and Folly Rd. is less than 8 yrs old.

Just saw in The State today, 3 in Columbia being sold as well.

I heard from someone that works at Reids in the town I live in was also bought out by Bi-Lo.
Let’s see, Reids bought out some Food lion stores a good many years back. Now Bi-Lo buys them out. Sound like the food chain is working.
Also wonder what will happen to the big PW warehouse right off I-26 in Jedburg?

They sold that in 2010 and are leasing the space. It was a sell lease agreement.

Even the “high end” grocery store that is/was a part of the PW family being built on the IOP is being sold. As it stands I will have 3 Harris Teeters to pass on my way home from the marina and it is a 5 mile ride.

They have been going out a business for a while. They sold there entire fleet of trucks to Ryder a few years ago. They had Ryder doing the upkeep and truck replacement since then. Even when they built Newton Farms on Kiawah/Seabrook they knew the end was near, they just kept trying. The employees have lost a LOT of retirement funds in the mean time. Years and years of dedication gone down the drain. I have a few friends/family that are/were still holding on. Hopefully they can find work elsewhere. I can tell you this, if I am on a ship that hits an iceberg I am not going to ride it out, I’m jumping ship ASAP. Not riding it out for 10 or more years, just to find out the lifeboats don’t float. It is a sad business reality that loyalty gets you nowhere in your career.

Theres nothing like the "Smell" and sounds of the creek. Its not just one thing that makes it familiar..its all of it.

The one by Otranto is my closest one. It has been going downhill for years.

I was kinda hoping it would be on the list. I’ve found expired baby food and meats in there. It seems like most of their coffee creamers are sugar free; who buys that crap?

On the other hand, BiLo isn’t as the name suggests. It seems like they’re a lot more expensive than anywhere else.

Hopefully my PIg gets some better management and employees with this move.

I remember ten years ago thinking it should be torn down and replaced.

I was thinking the same thing a couple months ago when I was in there last.
