Pigs, wind and....WHAT???

Decided late last night to fish a little this morning. Felt like we had a small window of wind-free fishing before the big blow started. Hit the Stono at 7:45 and proceeded to find a few shrimp and mullet for bait. Set up at spot #1 and young son fights a large red to the side of the boat before he makes a big run under the boat and parted the leader. A few minutes later, another big hit and he lands a nice 25" redfish.

Fished a little more and the wind continued to build. So we pulled anchor and headed to the hill. Upon approaching Limehouse landing, which is getting crowded at 11:00, I see a black Chevy pickup with a trailer blocking a lane. Nobody around. So after cruising the landing waiting on a spot, and getting a little upset about the blocked landing, I finally pull behind the truck/trailer and dock and go to retrieve my vehicle and trailer. I knew that DNR was there performing safety checks and was intending on complaining when I got the chance. Well, while I was circling the parking lot, I see a minivan pull up and a guy get out to mess with the truck. My son was sitting with the boat and saw the guy crawl under the try to change gears and nothing happened. So the guy gets out and crawls under the truck and strats fiddling with the linkage. Son hears a pop and the truck starts rolling into the river. All the guy can do is get his son out of the cab and try to save as much stuff as he can. DNR showed up and my son told them what happened. The end result was a first for me to ever actually see.

Pulled out and ran over to Bushy Park where we met Vinman and family. Great to meet another member and put a face to a name.

All in all, a good day on the water. Well, for most of us anyway.

Forgot to add that the trailer ended up under my boat and my son had to move it to keep from getting hit by a guidepost. That’s my boat in the upper left of the pic after my son moved it. The guy was able to get his son and most of his stuff out of the truck. I saw it start rolling, but didn’t actually see if hit the water. I bailed and ran over in time to see the water about 3" over the dash. The guy looked like a crabber, maybe. He had crab basket lids in the bed and they were floating off. A tough loss for anyone.

Our man on the scene - good work.

Sorry for him.

Forgive my ignorance, did the brakes fail too?

The guy was underneath the truck trying to get the transmission to engage. Nobody, except the child (about 6) was in the cab. The guy was using a wrench under the truck trying to get the truck into a gear. And I am guessing that he hadn’t set the parking break.

I put my boat in one morning at a ramp I use quite often… Backed the boat off the trailer and my motor hit an obstruction in the water… I was like what the heck was that. Dad hopped in the boat and we ran up the creek to find some bait actually got on a few fish and decided to head to some other drops. Blue lights and divers were at the landing when we drove past and they pulled a car out of the river… Was sitting on the rear bumper headlights sticking straight up. Glad I didnt damage my lower unit on that thing lol

Tell Justin it is a good thing that fish don’t care about fashion sense. Nice job on the catching. The water doesn’t look too dirty. Hopefully tomorrow will be fishable.

Matching clothes, or even matching socks, for that matter, have never been a priority for him. Water was not extremely dirty. May change with the winds though. Hopefully it will be fishable. Watching the weather myself.

Since we all but got skunked yesterday we ran out and got that very same outfit in hopes of having some TexasRed luck! :sunglasses:

Was great meeting you and your son on the water. Good call on your part heading in after you saw us the second time. We plucked one more after that and A LOT of casting!
