Pimp my Shrimp...

boat that is… Do you guys have any pictures of any lighting systems that you are proud of? Obviously the first thing I learned about shrimping at night is that you need good lights. I’m interested to see some of the solutions that you have rigged up… Who has the best pimped out, shrimped out boat?

I’m thinking about installing some lighting on the deck, around the console, etc. Maybe small LED’s or something…

Thoughts?

There goes the neighborhood.

For reel, those ultra bright low current draw LEDs are pretty awesome; just remember that you get what you paid for. If they’re uber cheap, that’s for a reason.

Get the coloring changing ones, I hear the shrimp dig them (so Peapod says).

Thought you were an outside the box type egg. You’re asking to imitate and emulate when you should be thinking- INNOVATE!

Put all your lights on the poles instead of the bote* if you want to be deserving of the adjective “pimp.”

Don’t worry about the shrimp the lights keep away from your poles. That reputation as pimp pole man is far more valuable than not ever catching a limit of scrimp.

Have you ever typed "LED lights" on the internet? The results are endless... Hoping some have experience with something that is good bang for the buck...

I am thinking about putting blinkies on my poles, but what I want to do is have more light on the deck so I can see tangles and skrimps in my net. My eyesight isn’t what it used to be!

I’ve never done it but I heard of people putting glow sticks on the poles, some say just the first/last ones. I never did because i wasn’t sure of the regs associated with placing lights on a pole in the water.

I really think the less light you can get by with, is the best. We up graded and used a good bit of reflective tape on our poles and would use a glow stick on out first and last pole. I have one red led for deck that’s in the console facing forward but its low enough it doesn’t bother driver or other boats and a separate switch for another red led mounted under ttop box that lights up cockpit area. The one deck led is more than adequate to see shrimp and tangles and doesn’t mess with the drivers vision.T top has spreader light on front and back. When driving I hated to have to use the spreaders as it kills your night vision. Kept a headlamp when driving just to shine the poles with if needed, usually my anchor light with the extra reflective tape was all I needed.

Buy some of the one dollar solar yard light and duct tape to your poles…really. They are very light and easy to spot. Dollar tree carries them and most places like Walmart have them on clearance now. Also a good thing to keep in your boat. Stick them in your rod holders. Make cheap deck lights…for night fishing…saves your battery. Dollar tree also has the glow sticks

Some years are different, this year the shrimp seem sensitive to the light, where I’m at. Too much light from the boat runs them off the poles. Try clamp lights on PVC in the rod holders. I make plug ends just like extension cords.

SJ, whatever you decide, the red lights On a Fishin Mission mentioned will save your night vision…

I have LED dive wands attached to mine.
Friends who set up near me always know where their poles are if they drift off
