Pinehouse Lake Saskatechewan Report (with pics)

Wasn’t sure where to post this so I figured this forum was ok. Just got back into town from an awesome trip up North with my buddy Alex and his dad Joe. Bit of a long read just FYI…

We got up to Saskatoon Saturday afternoon after a couple short plane rides from Raleigh. Met up with a fella Randy who had stored Joe’s jetboat over the summer. Randy is a good ol’ grain farmer and a perfect first Canadian to encounter. “Oh the weather has been good eh, it should be straight up hammertime up there boys, you betcha!”… I could only hope this would be the case

Drove the 5 hours North to Gordon Lake that evening. Over 100 miles were on a gravel grid road that leads up to some major uranium and diamond mining operations (road was sketchy at best :stuck_out_tongue:). Set up camp and then headed out on the lake the next morning to get after some lake trout. The wind BLEW and BLEW that day and we had a really hard time getting the baits to work the way we wanted. I finally switched up to a 3/4 oz jig and hooked one up, about a 5 pounder, that we got to the boat and promptly lost… oh well it happens

Called it early on the lakers and decided to pack up camp and head back down to pinehouse lake to get an early start on setting up a base camp.

Boat loaded and ready to go:

We put in at the Kamkota Lodge (which is a really cool operation BTW…) and made the 20 mile run to an undisclosed location where we set up camp on an island (important… no bears on the island!)

We then proceeded to fish, HARD. The water level was way out of whack as it was almost 10 feet above normal in the area we were fishing so we had to put some time in to find the fish. We tried the spots Alex knew but conditions were tough. We finally got into some fish at the bottom of some rapids and Joe caught a stud 9 or so pound walleye.

Alex and I busted out the diving plugs that evening and trolled around several different spots until we found some qu

Awesome report! Thanks - I can taste that Walleye right now…MMmmmmmm

Thats some beautiful country ,the camp looked great.I must say those were some fine Walleyes you caught, some of or the best fish ever. My brother “god rest his soul” was a Walleye fanatic,he only got to fish maybe 8 times a year but he always had a freezer of Walleye fillets. Some guys just have that specail knack for them. Congratulations on what looks and sounds like an adventure fo a lifetime.

Pretty cool trip!

Nice looking fish there. Canada is on the list of places I will be going at some point in the future. The walleye are delicious fish and I have the pleasure of catching a good number of them here in TN. Difficult to find and get to hit sometimes but when you do the reward is worth the effort. And yes, the cheeks are the best meat on them!

Walleye are some of the best table fare you can find fish wise. I wonder why there are not farmed like catfish…?
