Whats the best way to catch those small trout size pinfish? I caught one today by accident in my cast net. I caught the biggest trout of the day on it. Thanks.
sibiki rig or pinfish trap
Lies and inuendo.
Big trout do not eat pinfish. Or croakers.
Neither do flounder
Thanks for the replies. Really funny Peapod!
How long does a pinfish trap generally take to get a good supply of pinfish?
pinfish traps are illegal in SC.

Best place to get them in big numbers is that creek that goes up into mt p next to the State ports.Low tide they are all over the place.

I was looking at old post, and apparently they are. I don’t think I will risk it.
Can you catch them in regular minnow traps?
Believe it or not you can often load up on bait-sized pinfish if you are poking around tide pools. Larger tide pools with big rocks around them often hold hordes of silver-dollar and bigger sizes of pinfish. Just get a big “shad” net (long handled, glorified aquarium net, about a foot in diameter) and scoop around the rocks. You’ll find them soon enough.
My son and I scooped up 10-15 of them in one net full in one of the tide pools on Folly earlier this week, along with a pile of blennies. Not sure if the blennies make good bait or not but they make great aquarium fish.

That’s awesome. I’ll have to try that. Always something new I gotta buy! Thanks everybody.

One of my favorite baits to set on two Carolina rigs and just sit back and listen for drag screaming! What I do is take a small piece of fresh mullet skin (it’ll stay on the hook forever) and tie up a simple double drop rig with two little gold hooks and a sinker…cast near any floating dock and you’ll catch as many as you want…also…theres no pinfish ‘too big’ for bait…goodluck.

Stonoman, where exactly is the spot? Is it easy to access from land? I’m taking my kid down there this weekend and love to have some action for the kid!
I caught a little fish with yellow stripes in the boat and the guy told me it was a pinfish. First one I have seen.
