Decided to head to the Pinopolis Dam today. Temp was 36F when I left the house but it got up to a balmy 45F by the end of the day. Put in across from Gilligan’s right off hwy52. Then it was a quick trip up to the dam. I had not caught a Shad until today. It was a lot of fun. The current was really strong once they opened the gates on the generators. I’ve never seen currents-this strong at least in
freshwater. Couldn’t get the anchor to stay set. No problem though held position with the mirage drive. Biggest was 17". These fish are a blast to catch, leaping out of the water and strong. I caught 2 and lost 4 more. I got hasty and learned you can’t horse them like a Redfish. They have soft lips like trout. A great day on the water.
Congrats! Looks like they are still working on the locks…
Good job looks like fun. How close do they let you get to the dam
There is a sanctuary line before you get to the dam - about 200-250 yards from the dam…no fishing beyond the signs.
I see any big catfish in that area
Negative on the cats, but Shad filets made a good dinner.
