Pioneer 220 Sportfish

How many have been waiting on it?

It has been worth the wait. That is all I can say at this time…

I started waiting with the rumors in summer 2008. After 1 1/2 years I pulled the trigger on a differnt boat last December. Perhaps I can convince my neighbor to upsize his SF 197. How about a SF 24 or 25 with twins; that could be my next boat.

cut out a walkway in the front center so i won’t be up on the deck throwin a net and i’m sold.

They might put this on the market about the same time I get all my debts retired…so I can go back into debt.

I don’t know, looks like another mono hull to me. They all have
handling issues I’ve seen in other mono hulls of this size. I don’t see where it is any different than other 22s on the market. Why would you go with a new guy when the tried and true All mighty Yellowfin is out there? Oh that is right they don’t make a small cc.

How does this compare to a regulator?

Just seems like the tired and proven is the best option.

What are the performance numbers compared to a Regulator? How much does it cost compared to a Regulator.

You are drinking pioneer kool aid.

BTW, they are not going to offer test rides are they? That really proves nothing but it would be nice to let us posers ride on it. Surely they will put it in SKA and donate a few to the local charter captains to test for us internet dorks to read about.

Phin you taught us all alot about how to review a boat in this thread.

Figured we should treat all of our LOCAL boat manufactures the same eh??

No offense Pioneer owners, I have heard TONS of good things about your boats. I would definitely have one on my short list if I were in the market. Just wish ole Phin would give Billy Freeman the benefit of the doubt till he rode on his boat. Funny how Billy has just another cat but Pioneer has a great mono hull and Phin has never rode on either one.

Freeman Boats are the talk of the gulf coast and they have me interested in the ride and if they can perform to what he promises. They are like the dream boats for a lot of these guys down here. I hate cat boats but if it does what he promises then it change my opinion.

From reds to marlin you got it.

Pioneer is tried and true to me. Have spent over 100 hours on Pioneers in the ocean if I added it all up I’d bet, and that was probably 90% in the 197 sportfish and 10% in the 220 Baysport. They are not perfect, but they are danged impressive for their size and price sticker I thought. I enjoy fishing them and running them. I feel safer and more confident in a 197 Pioneer than 95% of the other boats I’ve fished on. Honestly. I know that being a Contender person that such an attitude seems totally ridiculous to you, but it’s my attitude as evidenced by much more than mere speak or type I think you’ll realize if you think about it.

I could actually tell what I think of the one regulator and several contenders I’ve been on, but who cares? I am no authority on anything.

I’ve learned that nobody listens to anything you say on here unless they are fools or unless you prove what you can do or what you know by posting reports or having some aliases or buddies tell everybody that you are a decent fishermen. Even when you do that, people forget what you’ve done or said even though it’s all here sort of permanently. There’s always better people posting and reading this site. I try to contribute what I can even when I don’t get to fish much lately. That means I turn into looking like I don’t do anything and just talk. So be it. Been there before. I like to talk and listen. I type fast, unfortunately though, so it looks like I don’t like to listen to people who don’t know me in person. That stinks…

I’ve got news for you, the best knowledge on boats and fishing doesn’t even get posted on here. Only bits and pieces show up here between lots of other fun and filler. We are all smart enough to figure out the truth from all of it if we want to take that much time and thought to do it.

Why come on the internet immediately comparing some boat brand to other boat brands and having nothing “earned” to back up what you’re saying? The first time I rode in a Pioneer was a ridiculous February day. Got beat badly and co

Phin did.

I talked with a buddy after he rode in Billy Freeman’s cat. My buddy that has ridden in a lot of big boats was impressed with it.
Phin, felt it necessary to drag Yellowfin and Contender into the argument.

http://old.charlestonfishing.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=102036&whichpage=1

Notice they were NOT mentioned in the thread before he brought them up.

That is fine. I found it a bit distasteful but hey it is the internet. I just wanted to make sure all our LOCAL manufacturers got the same treatment on our LOCAL internet fishing site.

If Phin is going to talk Yellowfin and Contender when ever the Freeman cat is mentioned then is it not fair to talk Regulator, Scout, Boston Whaler, Contender, and Mako when Pioneer is brought up especially by Mr. Phin??

Again this is not about Pioneer particularly it is about good internet discussion with Phin, just want to make sure we are on the same page when we bring up boats we have not ridden in.

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
