Pioneer(boats) Owners

Hey everyone! I bought my 2014 197SF and ever since I bought it I’ve had an issue at the gas pumps. I go to fill the tank, and the shut off for the handle works, but then I get a quick overflow of fuel from the fuel vent on the hull. Only about two cups of fuel but it goes all over the hull and I have to clean it off really quick. Anyone else have issues with fuel from the vent while filling?

Lots of boats do this. Does yours continue to “slosh” fuel out of the vent when trailering the boat with a full tank?

I’ve never owned a boat that didnt do this. I can usually prevent if by listening to when the sound of the gas going in changes pitch. You need to stop the gas pump when you hear the pitch change before the auto-stop stops it for you. Hope that helps. This certainly isnt unique to pioneers although, it would be unusual if it sloshed fuel out like leadenwah asked above.

Always been a problem for me too. Heck, my Jeep even does it.

Yea my Sea Hunt does that so I started turning the key on and watching the gage and I stop when I get pretty close to topped off.

I put my hand up by the vent and when the air pressure decreases in force, slow down the pump. They make a whistle thing that works on the same principle.

I’m also a guage watcher. When it gets close I either stop filling or slow down.

they used to make a whistle that you put in line of your fuel vent, it would whistle till liquid got to it, when it stopped whisling, you stopped pumping.depending on how low you mounted it, it would prevent fuel slush

If you have Marine Stabil or Seafoam in the fuel, gas spill turns yellow on the hull. Very hard to get out when dry. Startron doesn’t turn to yellow…

I appreciate all the comments. And to answer leadenwahboy, fuel doesn’t slosh out when trailering. Only while filling up once tank is full

Have a Ranger that does the same.

I’ve never had the issue with my Pioneer

Sbecker, the gas shut off works and doesn’t ever leak out the vent?

Hmm, I did not know that. I have Seafoam in my tank and sure enough have stains from where the vent has puked. They won’t wax out either. I’ll buff them when I do my fall cleaning. Thanks for the info, I’ll switch to Strartron!

This product will get it off. Gets just about all stains off the hull when used properly. Super easy to use as well.

I just bought a 2008 Pioneer 197 sportfish and fueling is a total PIA. It literally takes 30 minutes to pump 20 gallons. According to the dealer the previous owner had the same issue.Maybe that’s why there’s only 75 hours on the engine.I’ve been asking around but haven’t been able to solve the problem yet. Maybe Pioneer can help. Awesome boat but this is really frustrating.

Chargeron, it only takes a couple minutes to fuel my boat. Just tired of leaning over by the vent to listen to the change in sound as it bears full. Was hoping it was an easy fix but send many people have the same issue

My 2014 Pioneer 222 Sportfish has no fueling issues, only issue is constant offshore breeze and few trips offshore.

Have and 08 pioneer 197 and no issues fueling. That being said, my buddies bluewater started giving us trouble filling up one day and the fuel line had gotten kinked somehow, fixed it in about 10 minutes and no trouble since. Call pioneer and get there thoughts, they are good folks and will get you fixed up.

Update. I did some research and figured out that placing a flexible 18 inch metal funnel in the fuel neck solves the problem. I’m sure it was kinked somehow as Salty suggested. Anyway, thought I would pass that along. Thanks guys.
