I have a removable seat back that fits in the rod holders on my leaning post. The tubes are anodized aluminum and have a curve in them. I want them straight. Who in Charleston can do this without screwing up the finish? I bet a muffler shop could do it, but not sure they can maintain the finish. thanks.
You need to get a pipe straightener there pardner. That might be a tall order to get it to look right. What is the OD and wall thickness of pipe?
Yeah, i guess it’s poTAYto, poTAHto. Bend it back straight. :).
I’m at work but recall it’s about 1 1/8” or 1 1/4” OD and the thickness is 1/8 or 3/16. Would a muffler shop screw it up?

Will aluminum tolerate being bent and then un-bent? I don’t know. I do know it is not as ductile as a lot of other metals. Might crack when straightening?

Further research suggests the anodized layer will crack if bent thus rendering the corrosion protection useless. Looking into other alternatives. Thanks for looking.

It sounds like 1" pipe. If it just has some curve to it, it might be able to be straightened without damage to the anodizing. If it is bent, I doubt it.
Stay away from a muffler shop. they deal with tubing not pipe. Different outer dimensions. Check with a shop that specializes in T-tops, leaning post, etc.
Can you post a picture of it?

You’re best bet is to salvage the backrest and scrap the pipe.
Get a shop to build you a new frame and put your backrest on it.
Trying to salvage the aluminum is more trouble than it’s worth.

Put a pair wedges between the cushion and frame? Maybe a coupe of pieces of StarBoard or similar.
