Deposited there by Hurricane Hugo?

Talk to the owner of Bowens, he’ll explain. If I recall what he told me, the thing washed up abandoned, and someone took legal possession of it… but had nowhere to put it. So Bowens let him slip it to their dock, where it sat for months beating up his dock in the wake. Eventually, the “owner” just anchored it near it’s current spot, but too shallow. Low tide/high tide cycles eventually flooded it, and now it sits rotting.

I don’t think it was all that long ago, not as far back as Hugo if I recall. Perhaps Floyd?

Saying “I am offended” is telling everyone else that you cannot control your own emotions, and thus you need everyone else to do it for you.

it was after Floyd, 1999 if I recall…the Merriweather family had just relocated to Little Oak Island from somewhere up in Yankee land…their sailboat, the Hatiola Mistress, was at anchor in the Folly river when she took on water mysteriously and was towed towards the Folly Creek, that shallow cut through from the Folly river to Folly Creek…she finally sank on the waning moon in May of 2000…Mr. Goat from Bowens Island decided he would pull her, hand over hand, to her present location and hide his illegal moonshine still…I swear he offered me some last weekend at our oyster roast…anyway, legend had it that wind and tide moved the Miss Hatiola towards the shore and deposited her at the funny angle you see today…all types of odd behavior is common around the ghost hull now…rumor has it that 23Sailfish even caught a redfish on a fiddler crab there a few years ago…pics exist somewhere…

I know first hand that the Swamp Fox trained his troops on that ship. Hand to God. I have the world record tarpon on a Zebco standing on the deck that ship during Hugo. Bush planned the invasion of Iraq on that boat. The original receipt for crab cakes was invented on that ship. The name of the grocery store chain Piggly Wiggly was created while Google did it’s first search for the person who invented the internet during the Kennedy assassination investigation by Lindsay Lohan’s second girlfriend’s favorite chief’s favorite TV producers… guy who knew… I think… I remember… twice removed…

Met some people from Indiana who brought there pond boat all the way to Charleston for vacation and they thought it was the coolest thing. They fished by it and caught a sharp nose and took a trick picture to make there friends back home think they got jaws. It has a cool old look but really hasn’t been there that long and seems to be deteriorating, and submerging itself into the bottom at a fair rate.

Francis Marion actually trained his officers on that boat, not the infantrymen…
