MM come on,
It is the coldest time of the year around here. The show isn’t as bad as you make it out to be. Yes there are places that they could go in the Bahamas that require a lot more skill to hook into the average 5-8 lb bonefish.
Lefty is the man, and at his age I am still amazed at his abilty to fish. Yvon Chouinard, creater of Patagonia, is one of the most interesting and devoted outdoorsmen of our time. I enjoied watching and hearing him. I have watched the two episodes that have aired, and Michael Keaton isn’t a bad caster…he also has a broken foot that has a huge boot on it.
It would be a lot better if the guys from Trout Bum Diaries went out there and did a show, but to wake up on Sat morning and turn on the tube at 8 and watch a show that is nothing but fly fishing is great.
I also think that it isn’t a bad idea to bring attention to the tactics when releasing fish in saltwater. I agree that the bonefish are not in danger of disappearing from the Bahamas waters anytime soon. But, bringing attention to proper release tactics is always a good thing in my opinion.

For those going to the bahamas with me in a few weeks the scene will be ALOT different… Fishing on foot, by yourself with no guide, to big smart fish… drinking beer and crashing in what could be referred to as a “fishing house” with a bunch of foulmouthed salty rejects… My kind of trip…

you forgot to mention conch everything!

Going to Andros in May and can’t wait.

i have read some of the posts about this show, and here is my take on it.
These guys are the leaders in their professions, and I am sure to get them to do the show they were promised some nice accomodations, and chances to catch fish. Do you really think Lefty if going to go sleep in a shanty for a week and fish out of a canoe with some jack arse guide that cannot pole a boat?
Also these guys are trying to present something nice to the people that may have never seen anything about bonefishing.
I see nothing worng with the show nd I think the education they are trying to present to people is a great thing.
Sorry it is not some low budget redneck hunting show burried on some local access channel.
I think it is great TV and great for the sport!!

Far better it is to dare mighty things to win glorious triumphs even though checkered with failure, than to take ranks with those poor spirits who never enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

Problem is, they risked nothing… and brought nothing new to the table… like I said before, all that talent and potential and no results…

done… I’m just stating my opinion… thats what this place is for. If you like it, watch it… Ive put over 50 redfish on the fly in the past two days… so i think on my saturday morning instead of getting educated by batman on fly-fishing… I may actually just go fishing…

Later boys…

"to hell with insane… I’m OUTsane!!! "

if you have nothing to do on a saturday morning its entertaining but im with mike - why not go catch your own fish instead of watch a bunch of rich guys pay to basically have fish given to them? definitely not something to schedule your morning around

“all this for a fish”

i read about it in garden and gun recently. I love lefty and mcguane, so they would make it worth a watch, but I haven’t seen it yet.

I am pretty tired of all the shows out there. Walkers Cay, Andy Mills show, and Larry Dalbergs show are my three favorites. And I think that is based on not having to mention a sponsor’s product every 20 seconds and not being so self absorbed as most of the fishing show gomers are, these days. Nobody cares about carrot stix fly rods, dude.

carrot stix makes fly rods???

Walkers Cay was awesome, Chasing Silver is pretty good. Not many good shows anymore though.
This is entertaining:

I fished with Andy Mill this summer in Aspen. Haven’t seen his show but would really like to. That guy knows more about fishing then I could ever want to know. His 13 year old son is one hell of a fisherman too.
I personally like Dahlberg’s b/c he goes after some ridiculous fish that I’ll probably never have a shot at catching

I thought the show was fair but not really worth watching. I could relate because I went out with Paul Pender 3x while visiting little Abaco. He was the guide trying to stab a shark with the stiffy push pole. He’s one cool character. 3 plus yrs ago he had the Orvis Helix (sp)2 yrs prior before releasing it on the market. First guy I’ve ever met to throw 20+ ft of backing into 10mph wind.

I understand that is just your opinion, and that is what I was trying to state as well. As for going fishing instead of watching the show, there are no red fish in Atlanta, and we have had so much rain and continue to get one or two days a week that our rivers are blown out. So all I have to do is sit and watch fishing shows on ESPN, and tie up flies for fish I will not get to chase.
I understand how you might not like the show from a technical aspect, but the way I view it is seeing these guys having fun in a super place. I like to see how they are not good at casting except for Lefty, and how they can still get fish. I love the shots of the water boiling with fish, and the conservation information they are trying to give to everyone.
If you were to ask me I would say that the reason for the show is to educate people, but who would sit and listen to 30 minutes of conservation information without seeing some fish brought to hand?
It is entertaining, to me anyway. I would much rather be out fishing, but as stated earlier that is diificult to do.

Far better it is to dare mighty things to win glorious triumphs even though checkered with failure, than to take ranks with those poor spirits who never enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

Usually don’t comment on this stuff but, Walkers rocked as does Flip. Hell I even liked his on and on philosophy of fishing and life. I dvr all Sunday and sat fishing shows and then see if they are even fishing my style or for something I can even catch in the Atlantic !! Otherwise I delete… Don’t care who it is. If Flip was flyfishing for Roosters I would delete his ass to. I’m in it for information and I like to watch something I can relate to. I like those guys on the pirates show, but unless they are showing me how to tie a crab pattern the reds eat I got no interest. I can’t fish for bones in CHucktown… Anyway !!!

Peace And Ease

Everyone should believe in something, I believe I’ll go fishing !!!

They caught one in MB this past summer… I am just waiting for the bones and snook to make Chas a home due to the global warming

We went to Hope Town last year in April and fished some of the east side areas of Abaco. rented a boat, got a map, and started exploring. had no clue what i was doing or where i should go. waded like i was looking for redfish in the flats and hooked into a few bonefish on the fly. it was very rewarding having done the legwork myself. that being said…if i had the cash i would hit up a guide the 1st time through at least.
