Pit Barrel Cooker - Anyone have one?

https://www.pitbarrelcooker.com/

Looks interesting, kind of like a light it and walk away type of cooker, which is more to my liking. Only $229 for the Jr. which isn’t bad…lots of videos on how to cook/smoke/grill almost everything…

Appreciate any ■■■■■■■■…

Don’t have any experience with them myself but this site is a good resource…

“…be a man and PM me.”

have seen lots of homemade “ugly drum smokers” - made much more cheaply of course.

That one has a lot of good details and its not so ugly!

The “science” about it not being direct heat is garbage though. You can smoke 2 butts in a weber kettle with a charcoal snake and get it as indirect as that barrel for $100 cheaper.

I will stick with my O’rion smooker/cooker. less than $150 and can cook a 20# turkey in 2hrs20min to perfection with crispy skin. also can do 6 racks of large ribs in 1.5 hours and they almost fall off of the bone. most things cook around 7mins per pound. had this for over 6 years and it is still going strong.

You are above this. I was hoping my “resource person” would not identify with the workings of the Pods mind… The horror…but the quote:

“Pea Pod Poetry” will stick.

I have 2 Weber’s that I use all the time, they are too weathered to break down for travel. I was looking for a new contraption that could do it all and fit back into a box. We rent beach house’s that come with the standard gas grill that’s ok for burgers and steaks. I would like to be able to cook more items while at the pool nursing a pitcher of Mojito’s with my better half…

Coolbreeze, that Orion looks good but it looks like it consumes a ton of charcoal per cook. It also looks like it would take up some valuable space in the SUV with the wide base. Their website isn’t best as far as specifics…

That is definitely the CF of smoked meats, Good Lord…

I used to keep a bullet-style smoker from Brinkmann, they look like R2D2. It was set-it-and-forget-it, cost like $50 and didn’t look like a trash barrel. Expensive for what it seems to be. I have eaten some mighty fine chicken off of one of the pit barrels though, not sure the quality of the chicken was set apart by the choice of smoker. Any smoker with the recipe would have been dang good.

HaHa!!! Yeah, pretty much. Can be overwhelming.

area; it really is not as big as it looks. it is approx 32" tall and 22" diameter. it uses on 11 lb bag of matchlight/walmart brand or you can add about a half bag and then put regular charcoal on it. also the coals last a long time. i have cooked 6 big racks of prok ribs anad then a whole chicken after that and still could cook more if wanted. it is not nearly as big as it looks. reminds me of my dad’s old trash can cooker/galvanized can with coals around it and on top. also check out the rec tec grills. they have a #300 that folds up and is east to carry. they are coming out with a new version on that one in the spring. i have both and love the orion and also the rec tec pellet grill.just ask around this site or the orion site and i think that you will be impressed with how easy it is. i also put a couple of small mesquite chips inside and maybe some apple juice and sliced onion or apple in the drip pan. good luck and hope you find what you are looking for.
sorry about thelong msg but believe me; it is worth it
