Pitt Street Bridge

Anyone spend much time fishing Pitt Street Bridge? I’ve been fishing there on and off for about a year now and had some good days and bad days. Just curious what everyone thinks about it and how they approach.

I live close to Pitt St Bridge, but rarely fish there. Personally just not a spot I enjoy fishing. I usually surf fish on IOP or Sullivans. I have fished Pitt St quite a bit, but not in a couple of years, so my experience and advice may be out of date. Bait of choice there is usually mud minnows. I fished both Carolina rig on bottom and under a cork. Both are pretty effective. Most folks fish from the bridge/pier at the end, not from the causeway. I have caught small reds and flounder from the right side of the causeway just past where the grass ends close to high tide. I have also caught several fish from the left side of the bridge/pier. Fishing incoming tide is best so your line isnt drifting under the bridge. Work the entrance the the creek on the left, and the edges of the grass along the creek. I have seen fish caught off the end of the bridge as well. My biggest complaints about fishing there are the crabs and the crowds. Good crabbing spot, but get tired of reeling in just the head of a mud minnow when fishing. Place gets a fair amount of fisherman, and lots of walkers, bikers, dog walkers, kids, golf carts, people in general. I enjoy talking to folks when I fish, but I also enjoy some peace and quiet. Fishing there is more like pier fishing, which does not really appeal to me. Also, never seen any really good size fish caught there. Most of the reds, flounder, trout I have caught there have been under 12". If I want to catch small fish, I would prefer to catch whiting in the surf. At least I feel like I have a chance at a bull red, pompano, black drum, etc. Don’t let me discourage you, give it a try, you might like it. Its just not for me. I usually drive 15 mins to the beach instead of 2 mins to Pitt St when I fish.

I’ve fished there on and off. I’ve caught flounder and reds, seen a couple of nice slot redfish taken, rays, keeper trout. Graceandhayes nailed it on the spots to fish at the park. Use Mud’s or finger mullett. Crabs are bad, as well as old crab nets; caught plenty of those. I’ve also seen very nice sheepsheads caught. They are always around the pilings. Moving tide, in my opinion, is best here. I often work mullet up and down the bridge working the posts and do O.K. on flounder.

Overall, its a decent spot for us that are landlocked. The older ladies that walk their dogs are always super nice on the weekends. Easy to catch bait, and enough feeder creeks, grass lines, and holes to keep one busy.

Thanks for the info! Yea I don’t have a boat so I just have the little parks and spots to find along the coast and waterways. I used to live five minutes from Pitt, so I would go there a lot when I only had a little bit of time.

Lately I haven’t been doing the live bait thing and have been trying to learn and practice new things. I’m just now getting back into fishing after a pretty long time cold turkey. Went yesterday for sunset with my wife and had some strikes off popping cork with artificial floating over the oyster bed to the right before getting to the bridge and a top water lure pulling across from the grass near the same spot. Just a nice place to have a beer and relax and watch the sun set over Chuck. Thanks for the ■■■■■■■■ though I’ll try those techniques. :sunglasses:
