Places to Eat Seafood

Where can you get local and reasonably priced seafood for families?

No Red Lobster.

What area?

In north charleston, try the Wreckfish, behind Northwoods mall. Good food, good prices, haven’t been there for a while, once I found Sellsfishs’ store.

Charleston is the area.

Don’t mind a little driving.

A.W. Shucks is my favorite. It is downtown off of Market St. $10-$24 depending on what you get. Never had a bad meal there.

Key West 1720 115 HP Johnson Saltwater.

Higher end raw bar - the ordinary

More relaxed - fleet landing - just make sure to have the server specify which options are local.

Is the Wreck of Richard and Charlene still open? It used to have some good local food but I haven’t been there in years. Funky place, a little pricey for the environment and paper plates, but real good food. Cash only, no cards, no checks.

Downtown if you are willing to spend the money try Hanks or the Ordinary. Stay away from Hall’s, have had some bad fish there, and have heard the same from friends.

We like Coast and Salty Waters. Haven’t been to Bowen’s Island in years, hear it’s still good.

Dear Upstate…Take a road trip out to Awendaw, SC and try the Sewee Restaurant. On the left side of Hwy 17 North across from Tractor Supply. About 15 minutes north of Hwy 41 in Mt. Pleasant. VERY local seafood, and great desserts. Funky old country store converted to restaurant about 15 years ago.

Bowens Island = whiting, sometimes flounder… Loggerhead’s does great flounder… Sand Castle does great seafood in general… - all in the vicinity of Folly Beach. Slightly North of Broad is one of my favorite “reasonable” downtown places to eat just about anything including some specials like swordfish, triggerfish, etc. Maybe we just ought to plan a fish fry at my place!

Pearlz… especially for happy hour specials!

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

If you ever get down near Edisto, Flowers Seafood (only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) has the best fried seafood and steamed seafood pots from a restaurant (or food truck) I have ever had. Everything is hand breaded and portions are very generous.
