A few buddies and myself got up early and headed to the cans to spot a few cobia. We road and road checking each can. We tried to jig a few up at each stop but had no luck. We headed over to the near shore reef and tried for a bit with no luck either. The wind was a little higher than we expected and the clouds weren’t helping anything so we headed inshore. We netted a few dozen menhaden and headed to the double secret spot. My roommate started out us out with a 16" flatty, I followed with a 30" red, and my buddy ended it with a 32" red. We tried a few more spots as the tide dropped with no luck. Reds were released to catch another day and the flounder was fried and served with homemade french fries and onion rings. The bite is starting to pick up.

Nice fish. Were you guys fishing with my mother in law? She had taken 100’s of pictures of her family just like that.

That’s half right
Can buoys are green or black, their profile is rectangular and designate the starboard side of the channel when heading offshore, or port side when heading in. Nun buoys are red and triangular in shape and mark the opposite side. They are just as likely to hold fish as a can
Just remember Red Right returning from sea, keep red nuns on the right, green or black cans to the port.
The terminology isn’t specific to the Charleston Harbor, same with any harbor, Red nuns to starboard, black or green cans to port when entering. Reverse when heading out.
In the Intracoastal waterway keep red nuns on the right when southbound, black or green cans to port. Nuns are always on the mainland side and cans on the offshore side, no matter how the waterway may twist.
Just remember, red on right when returning from sea and red on right when southbound in the ICW. Reds are nuns. Greens and blacks are cans. Any color or shape might hold some fish:smiley:

Like you said the ICW twists and turns, so I remind people “red on the right if you’re driving to Texas” cuz northbound/southbound changes as you go! The ICW markers have the yellow triangle in addition.
Safe travels!!
Easiest way to remember…Red on Right Returning or RRR.
