I’m wanting to get me some planer boards and would like to ask the experts what kind is best. So what do you recommend?
I like the water bugs, Richard sells them at lake world. If you plan on putting more than 1/4oz wt then you will need something bigger. One of the MSC members makes and sells boards I’ve heard are good.

Ask 10 people and will get 6 answers, but waterbuggz are my choice. They are alot easier to get a hold of as well. I have pulled 3" baits as well as 16-18" baits with them. Price has gone up over the last 5 yrs but so has everything.
If you wear the foam out on them, sometimes u can find the waterbuggz boat at a tourny he will give ya free foam to replace.
also put your name and phone number on them. I have started doing this with the words reward if found on them. Giving someone a couple dollars is alot better than buying a new set just to get one board. And yes no matter what board u get one will eventually come off while fighting a fish.

Murraymaker has good advise, and while I’m far from an expert, I think the WaterBugs, which you can get at Lake World, will do the job nicely on Murray. You’ll probably want to get at least 2 or more pairs.
Kevin Morse (an MSC member) makes excellent planer boards in two different sizes, and a lot less expensive than Water Bugz.
Call him at 803-924-3285.

I prefer the “Redneck” boards. They are a little bigger but not very heavy. About 4’ x 11". Very good boards. Don’t have them with me or I would post the number, he etches the number on the boards. I like that they are aluminum. Maybe I just relate to the Redneck brand!

If you are going to be at the next meeting, I will try to bring one.
Thanks Rick, I’m not a member of the MSC or anything. I’m trying to learn all I can about striper fishing. Just started really and haven’t been able to land one yet. Had a nice hook up yesterday but no glory! My work schedule takes time from the water, but I try to get out there in the evenings and do a little fishing. Maybe one of these days I will be able to make the trip from Greenwood to the meeting. When do you usually meet?
MSC meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Flight Deck in Lexington. The meetings start at 7:00 PM. Come early if you want to eat.

I’ll see what I can do.
