There is a good chance of rain early next week. If they get another good rain, they will really take off. Sometimes, it is about getting a little lucky too :)!!

Here they are 4 weeks in. They really took off even without rain for almost two weeks. I’d rather be lucky than good!

That’s a nice stand of peas I don’t think they would make through a night around my house though. My problem isn’t attracting deer, it’s keeping the wood goats out of the garden. Some of my neighbors stake out hunting dogs in their pea plots to keep the deer out. I won’t treat my dogs like that though.

We planted Wannamaker Magic Carpet(soy beans, peas and buckwheat) with extra buckwheat on top. I worried about the deer getting them before they got up but hit the rain just right and they shot up like rockets. It’s also the first year this area has ever been planted so the deer weren’t pounding it looking for food at first. Next year they will be a much bigger problem I’m sure. Fortunately too, we have soy beans on three sides of the property this year so they have been keying on them more. All that said, I can’t take a step in the plots without seeing deer tracks so they will eventually beat them down. We’ll see how the forage resistant soybeans work then!
