Pleasant, productive afternoon

Went out this evening at about 3:00 to see if the fish were in their normal winter deep hole creek locations. First 3 casts, 3 slot reds. Worked similar holes and ended up with 4 more reds and 25ish trout, all in 6-12 feet of water over live bottom. All trout 13-18 inches. Water temps were in the mid 50’s, and it seems they are starting to bunch up as they should have over a month ago. I will try again in the morning in several different locations. All fish were caught on TroutEye jigheads with Strike King Caffeine Shad jrs. in the watermelon/pearl color.

Thanks for the report RAD. Going tmrw am armed with this advice

thanks for this.

re:live bottom

any tips on finding this? i’ve got some spots that i’ve located visually on big negative tides and others where i brought up pieces on my line. I don’t have a depthfinder. thanks

Nice report! I am very jealous of those who are fishing today…water is calm as can be…

Aren’t those little yellow stringy twig looking things concidered ‘live bottom’?

Yeah, it was gorgeous – I was out about the same time as you. Got a bit windy towards the end of the day, though.

Where did you fish? I was in the Wando checking a few low tide flats and pockets, but only saw 2 fish all day (right after I spooked them, of course). I’m trying to get started with fly fishing, but I’m having a lot of trouble finding fish to sight cast to. Did you see any schools, or were you just fishing areas that you thought would be productive?

Thanks for the report!

I can confirm that trout are transitioning to their winter patterns. Thanks RADDADDY

Went out today and found LOTS of places where they weren’t. Picked at a few trout during the mid incoming then resorted to catching reds on the main river grass edges. Slow trout day for me.

Yeah, we managed two smaller slot reds and one trout (all released). Monday was post front and I think that paired with the dirty water we couldn’t seem to get out of stacked the odds too high against us.

My trout catching is somewhat slow this year and I guess I need to venture in other areas to do better with the trouts.
