Please don't leave the Troops on the hill

Due to the space limitations at Rivers Edge Marina, and this being our first year as a new chapter, we’ve limited the number of active duty troops that we can safely accommodate to 75. Dividing them up into boats, I’m guessing we need 35 boats to be registered by Nov. 7th. I hope we get there…

However, like every other MAD event, there are never enough boats. MAD Morehead 2015 had over a 100 boats, but there were still troops on the waiting list.

This is not a tournament, there is no entry fee.

Come be a part of the first annual Military Appreciation Day. Please support our Troops.

I have a 2015 24 ft key west Bayreef 250 Yamaha. 2nd season less than 50 hrs on her. Fully equipped and is kept at Rivers Edge. Would be willing to donate the use of boat and pay expenses for the right captin. She will handle 4 easy including captain. Would rather a real experienced fisherman /captain carry these guys on my boat in hopes of showing them a fun time. Please contact me. I want to help.

We really appreciate your wanting to help, we need all the boats
we can safely handle and sounds like you’ve got a real nice one.
Hope you will volunteer to take it out , you cannot imagine the
expressions of gratitude expressed by our heros while on the water,
sure all like to catch fish but just being there is most of the fun.
If you do nothing but anchor up and drown bait it’ll be a blast for them. Reeeely hope to see you there, if any questions PM me and i’ll try to answer any questions. friends call me MAC.

I’ll give a little update on numbers so y’all can see just how many more boats we need to volunteer.

Current number of registered troops wanting to go fishing: 48, and climbing every week
Current number of registered volunteer boats: 13, and I think at least one will have to drop for not being in town

That’s an average of 3.7 troops per boat, and we can’t accommodate that. At this point in the numbers we just won’t be able to take them all. We need to be looking at an average of 2-2.5 troops per boat, preferable closer to the 2 per boat side of things.

Between the two MAD threads on page 1 of the Fishing Discussion section, they have been read a combined number of 968 times. And the best we can muster is 13 people willing to step up and take some action? I know we all like to post articles about military support stories in the off topic section, and post God Bless out Troops, and Support our Military…Now is your opportunity to step up to the plate and make one of the stories happen right here in Charleston. Now is the time to back up those statements and prove that they’re sincere.

Are some of you wanting to volunteer, but not registering because you’re worried you won’t be able to catch fish that day? Do not be worried about not catching anything! When I say it say it doesn’t matter if you actually catch anything, I sincerely mean it doesn’t matter. The point of this event is not to catch big fish and win fame and prizes. Not to be crowned best angler in Charleston. The point is to get these people on the water and say thank you by showing them how you choose to use your freedom that they protect.

Again, keep in mind it’s not a competition, not a tournament, not for prize or proving you’re the best fisherman in town. The only bragging rights you’ll get are bragging that you helped to make the event happen. It feels great to be able to do something like this for our military. At the end of the day our motto is ONE.SIMPLE.THANKS. and that’s exactly what we intend to tell these men and wo

I am active navy working for the weapons station, and I will tell you no one here has any idea of this event going on. Not the VA coordinator, MWR, nor the ITT. I am aware of MANY active and retired here that have boats and themselves would love to get involved. Anyway can get some flyers or something that can get out to those individuals?

Also, I am already participating helping a captain who is signed up currently. Not as a troop but assisting captain with equipment and helping hand for the troops fishing.

Thanks for volunteering! Yes, we would love to get some flyers and info over there. I can deliver hard copies and/or PDF to be emailed. Which would you like? Call/text/email (whichever you want) and let me know. 843-697- zero four one one, and abajoczky (at) gmail.com

All right now. It’s time to man up. All you guys who say you support our troops, put up or shut up. I’m going to do the best I can to show a few deserving young men a good time with fishingduo’s help. I see no reason we can’t get enough boats together unless some of you… Fill in the blank.

Thanks again Jeff.:sunglasses:

Andy, have you contacted any of the Inshore Charter Captains to see if they would be willing to donate a day on the water?

No, we have not cold called any charter captains. But we do have more than one charter captain onboard and registered.

I have a couple of friends checking their schedules to see if they will be available and I am continuing to spread the word. It’s sad that you are haveing such a hard time getting volunteers in such a large fishing community!!.

Don't have to be a guide to participate. I will be out of town that day or I would help out.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

Yeah, I know. I signed up already. Was just checking to see if they had contacted the local guides to see if any were available. I know you would help if you were in town, have a safe trip!!
