I’d like to invite you to participate in the Summerville Saltwater Angler’s annual Ashley River Cleanup event. The date is dictated by the tide and this year the event is scheduled for Saturday, February 11th from approx 9:30am to 1:30pm. The event is out of Jessen Landing which is at the corner of Ladson and Dorchester Rd in Summerville. We will have a 7+ ft tide at approx 10:45 am. So, larger boats will be able to participate no problems.
Last year we had 50+ boats and collected 11.5 TONS of trash. There is a huge trash problem up there and we are trying to clean it up. This part of the river is hidden gem and extremely historic and beautiful.
What we need: Boats. We cannot collect the trash and debris without boats. If you have a boat and are willing to help but no crew, please come anyway, as we have many people without boats who would like to participate and we can match you up.
The best tool for the job is a long pole with a net attached to it. This way you can reach out and drag the trash toward you to collect it.
We will provide trash bags, pre-event refreshments, and post-event lunch thanks to our sponsors: Biggby Coffee on Trolley Rd, Triangle Char and Bar on Dorchester Rd. We have ton’s of community support: Dorchester County, Town of Summerville, SCDNR, Charleston Waterkeeper, CCA-SC, ASRAC, Palmetto Pride, etc.
Bring your family, kids etc. We even have a fun contest for strangest/weirdest trash piece collected.
I’m going to try n make it, your partner did a good pitch at our boat club last week, WAOMC … we live right here on Old Trolley Rd around the corner but have never used that landing… see you there as long as nothing changes!!
I am trying to work out some pre-scheduled issues, but think I can attend. Is parking a issue? I can put in at Leeds and come up that way if it would help.
pitviper0404 Great! We ask all vehicles without trailers to park outside the landing so we can use all the spots for trailers. We have a crew that greets all traffic entering the landing to ensure this happens. Last year it was not an issue. There are 50 spots I believe. Worse case we can use the road leading in to the landing and behind Aldi for overflow parking. Thanks.
Optiker I’ve met you before, and Ralph… my wife and I came out to one of your clubs oyster roasts several years back at the country club… that was the meeting Ralph said he was going to step down, and let his son take the reins some I think? But yes sir, I’ve met all of y’all before even if you don’t remember me… I’m the big dude that plays doorman at WAOMC, Sgt. at Arms where you signed in…
