Please post some shrimp reports here!

I will not be able to make my first trip till this week, but would love to hear some reports on how folks are doing. I hope to see lot’s of pictures of full coolers of huge shrimp… In fact I hope to post a picture of a full cooler of huge shrimp!

Thanks!

9/20/13 went to bulls bay out of Anderson creek. took the channel
to bulls island. set poles at 1:00 shrimped till 4:00.low tide was at 3:06 pm not a shrimp. 6 boats around me same for everybody I talked to. I left along with 3 other boats. had 25 whiting in the boat.hope someone else can give you a better report. I am not new to bulls bay. been shrimping there for 20 years, just can’t find the shrimp yet. good luck.

Went out to BB Thursday (9/19), was setup when the tide started to roll in, topped the cooler off right after high tide. The shrimp got alittle more scarce after the tide started dropping. 6 hours of throwing the net, but we had a cooler full… Nice shrimp for the most part.

Went to kiawah river/stono inlet area, had poles and bait set by an hr after low tide. We let them sit for about twenty mins and started casting. Worked the pole for about 2-3 hrs until the tide got moving good. Long story short, we didn’t see the first shrimp. This was my first time shrimpin but I’m gonna keep at it. Any tips or points in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

3/5 of a cooler last night in the upper harbor. Mostly mediums with the occasional large and more occasional smalls. I started another thread because I was leery of going high tide but it was well worth the trip out. They started hitting really well at around 8:15 and did so until high tide. On a side note we had 3 people run right through the middle of our spread. My pole have tons of reflectors on them and I have no idea how people don’t pay attention to what’s going on and didn’t see them. I guess I need some lanterns on top of my poles.

I hear ya Spade. We are going after them next weekend.

Good deal empty, I’m off next weekend, give me a call. I should be down there.

Put in at Buck Hall and hit north Bulls Bay. First cast was at 11:15 on a falling tide. It really turned on about 2 hours before low. At low (2.5 on depth finder) a lot of shrimp were in the water/prop wash , they just weren’t hanging out on the bait balls. Waited for tide to start coming up and coolered out. Mostly large to medium with a few jumbos.

Thanks Sud and Spade. Glad to hear that the bay has shrimp in it

What size yeti is that? I have the 65 and was wondering where the 48 quart Mark was.

Filled a cooler yesterday in the broad river. Put in at the bridge and stayed within sight of the bridge. Mostly mediems with a few large mixed in. Started on a falling tide in 8-10 ft of water ended up on 4-6 at low. Made 10 passes

Went Friday night in Bulls bay out of Buck hall and shrimped the 2nd half of the incoming and 1st half of the outgoing. Filled the cooler about a 1/3 of the way with medium with some small mixed in. Wind was pretty strong but settled down around 10-11pm. Ton’s of people out, mixed reports from full coolers to people being skunked. Had a great time and cant wait for the big ones to come in.

Stayed in McClellanville this past week and just got home. One trip to Bulls Bay last Monday and maybe got a quarter of a cooler at best with small and medium shrimp.

Went to Cowpens Tuesday in 20+ knot wind with white caps and 2-3’ swells (maybe a little exaggerated but not much)…had two guests that I was determined to at least show a few throws of the net. Put 3 poles in a little closer to the point to try to get some shelter (don’t think it mattered with NE winds). Baited up to see if they were there and we were catching shrimp right away at 5-10 per throw so we put the other 7 poles in and went at it for a couple of hours until we had to return for a business call. Still got half a cooler of small to medium shrimp and I’m confident we would have coolered if we had stayed. We were the only idiots out there (never saw another boat even come by) and we were totally soaked from waves crashing the boat from all sides.

Added a 2nd boat Thursday-Saturday with some new guests at the house for a total of 5 trips out to Cowpens and we brought back 5 coolers over those 3 days. Great weather Thursday and Friday and not too bad Saturday with some wind late afternoon. We set up on the NE side of the channel maybe 1/4 mile North of the point. Set poles up close to the channel on the shelf and the shrimp were medium to some very large ones, overall very good sizes. Over those days I hit the rising tide and falling tide through high tide twice and then late yesterday hit the falling tide and the low tide and the following rise for about an hour. The absolute best was at dead high tide both times. Huge numbers per throw and that is where we really moved the cooler with several tosses over 50 shrimp. I had a couple of newbies in my boat and once I threw for 2-3 passes and was close to a limit I turned the net over to them and production went down because of miss-throws.

Only time they really were not there was at dead low tide yesterday…got skunked on about half of the throws. As soon as the water st

Sunday night. I(ncoming tide put in at Chessetee hunted a place between Daws and Limon. 16 shrimp is 7 passes. Gave up and went home. Any reports from lands en\d or bull point??

Thanks for the reports. I’m glad some folks are able to go. Cpt. Curt, I will not go back to Beaufort until 10/11 but I’ll call a few folks and see what is going on at Lands End.

When somebody says they fished the “Upper Harbor” what does that mean? Is that the north end of the harbor by Crab bank and shem creek?

BB has gotten better but you need to shrimp mid incomming tide to full tide. All other tides don’t seem to produce any numbers of shrimp at all.

Dav90, Thats a 50 something qt. Yeti. I have an old 46qt Gott cooler and I just dumped them into the Yeti when we got back to the hill.

Need some help here…Studying shrimp leads me to believe that larger shrimp migrate to the ocean for spawning or laying eggs… Most of the reports seem to indicate incoming tide is best…I am confused here…I know incoming is best for fishing because the bait is moving back in,So, which is it really for shrimp? Seems to be incoming.
