My thought are that closing Triggers at the end of the year for only a few weeks while the weather prohibits most fishing offshore anyway, makes no sense.
I also think that a one fish per boat - per trip rule on the Red Snapper makes sense.
The weather is going to be pretty unfriendly for the next few days, and most of us won’t be fishing, so I ask that you take the opportunity to do a little research and thinking. If you haven’t followed this thread, please do. Or, if you have access to yesterday’s Post and Courier (12/21),you can find the announcement in the sports section on the Outdoor page, the right hand column. Read the request for in-put from SAMFC. Then please tell me, in language that I may be able to understand, what they want me to do. No sarcasm intended.
Also, in their last news letter, SAMFC said they use various methods for determining the recreational harvest. One of those methods is creel surveys by their contractors and employees ( I guess that would include SCDNR ). If you, or anyone you know, have been surveyed, especially for Trigger fish, Black Sea Bass, Red Snapper, or grouper, take a minute to register on this site and indicate yea or nay. With hundreds of fishermen reading this site, it will be interesting information.
Your point as to their (hypothetical) methods of survey are the kind of thing that people need to be mentioned.
They obviously have no meaningful methods of assessing the numbers of fish being caught.
And their rulings and closures make little sense. Opening red snapper for a few specific days per year puts unreasonable expectations on petential fishermen targeting them. As I mentioned before, one fish per boat for a few months per year would make more sense. As for closing triggers at the end of the year, only to open them up on jan.1 makes no sense with weather being what it is in december.
Thanks for going to the link and submitting SOMETHING
Afish.,please understand that I am trying to get fishermen/interested parties to read the request for comments for an up- coming meeting of SAMFC. Their site shows no comments , which is not correct. Furthermore, there have been over 1,000 reads on this subject and no-one, other than you ( with whom I agree )has commented on this forum. Why is that the case?
I gave them all my personal information and made a comment. I want to know how they came up with that specific weight of recreational catch. I don’t believe it. I know of no one that has been checked or even asked for triggerfish caught and kept.
