Use to have a decent pair of split ring and another pair of boat pliers and cannot find them. Who makes some good ones that don’t rust at the mention of saltwater, will cut mono, wire and braid and don’t need a mortage taken out to buy them?

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

i would’ve said Abel’s til that last part ($$$). dr slick makes a good one for cheap but you’ll have to put corrision block or something similar to prevent rust. if you wanna spend it, the Abel’s are tough to beat though
I second Capt Ahabs Browning pliers - got a pair for Christmas 2 yrs ago and they get the job done. I purchased another pair for a friends b-day and got them on sale for alot less than the 50 dollars they want for them @ Basspro.
17/4 stainless has impressive corrosion resistance, but gives up some strength because it is brittle.
Looks like a good product with the replaceable blades.
I’ve never had any problems w/ my pair of brownings, but I rarely use wire leaders on my zebco33 :)jk. I did go ahead and buy the blades after they were given to me - I didn’t expect much out of them but for the money they are ok…a tad on the heavy side. I may need to look for those blades and put them on the boat.
But if money isn’t an option…I like pescador 7.5 in black (these are bad a$$) - about one fitty dollars and light as hizzell. and they gots a hook sharpener in the jaw
I’ve been using a pair of the yellow handled calcutta pliers. The were not very expensive and work great. I did spray mine with a coating of Boeshield. They have help up well and cut braid and mono with ease. Very functional and a good value.
Don Mar makes good ones for the money. I enjoy mine. The only maintenance I do is a a whipe down with Penn synthetic rod and reel oil after each trip.
Okuma and Accurate both make a really good pair of anodized aluminum fishing pliers with replaceable cutter heads if you’re going for something lightweight as well. Getting higher in price though.
The cross-hatched gripping in the jaws in any plier you may be comparing is far better for gripping hooks than the straight pattern it seems also.
I love my ross Pliers. I think they run a little over 100, but are worth every penny.

I have the 6" Ross Pescadors with sheath and lanyard. I could kick myself for not buying them years ago. I have no doubt that I’d have them now, and they would work just as the day they came out of the box. If you know someone who lives near a Cabela’s, have them check out the bargain cave in the back of the store. I purchased mine used like that for I think $39, and just had to replace the cutters. I should have bought them all, they had 4 or 5 pair for the same price, all used and with broken cutters. They cut braid/mono/wire like butter until I took them offshore and I managed to get the frame misaligned/bent somehow. The only way you could tell was the cutters just barely wouldn’t meet when all the way closed. I called Ross about it, and they apologized profusely and replaced them for free - the entire frame (they even paid for shipping). No other problems since, and I’m not nice to them at all. I do run them under hot water at the sink for a few seconds after use, and they don’t have a spot of corrosion.

Believe it or not…I wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t know first hand. Rapala makes a kick butt pair of pliers. $20 at Dick’s sporting goods. Rubber handles, split ring tip, cutters handle wire leader and copper lashing easily. Wrist strap which comes in handy when rigging ballyhoo in sloppy seas. The point of the pliers are the perfect size for poking ballyhoo eyes out. They even come with a sheeth. Fresh water rinse and an occasional shot of oil. best $20 you’ll spend.

Yep, I bought a new pair of pliers, then “found” the missing Rapalas this weekend. Still going to buy a pair of “quality” fishing pliers though.

I picked up a pair of aluminum pliers from Jeremy over at Atlantic Game and tackle a few weeks ago. So far, they are the best pliers I have had. Great cutter rips right through Braid and steel leader. Came with a sheath and a tether for around $50.
