pocket sized GPS

I am about to bite the bullet and take a charter to learn better techniques from the experts around here. Gotta show you guys what I’m made of. Anyways, I was looking for a small GPS that I can go back and look at coordinates later - I figure if I have to pay 400 bucks and 10 or 15 bucks for a tip I want to be able to head back to those spots in my own boat later.

Many Capts would not be happy about that. Their numbers are closely guarded. That being said, a smart phone with Navionics app would do the job, if the Capt doesn’t throw it overboard :face_with_head_bandage:

Wow, $10-15 for a tip. I’m sure for that kind of money he wouldn’t mind you marking his spots.

Yes, I’ve always been a generous tipper.

No salt, no fun.

Big Thank you to Cracker Larry. Thank you for providing me with the knowledge and tools to acquire specific fishing spots from local guides without their knowledge. You are truly a gift to this forum. Great information as always. I will certainly look into the Navionics app. What the guides don't know won't hurt 'em, right?

No salt, no fun.

Doesn’t surprise me you would need a gps to find inshore spots again.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

I tried this in the beaufort area this year and last. Nearly 1000 dollars later and ZERO redfish later I figured I’d find the fish on my own

Have you thought about taking up Tennis?

I think you misunderstood. I have been catching plenty of fish on my own. With a guide 0 for 2. I’m sure most guides know their stuff but this one sure makes it seem otherwise.

Methinks StrikePosition might be from Ohio.

Let me revise my statement. I know most guides know their stuff. I take guides out all the time all over the southeast. The two times that I took a guide looking specifically for spots to fish myself I’ve stuck out. Every guide I’ve taken in Charleston has done a terrific job, but those were specifically for pleasure. Lol

Do you really think that 3% is a generous tip:question: It’s more of an insult than a tip. And why do you need GPS to find an inshore spot again anyway? Just drive back to it. I don’t get it.

LOL you tip a bartender 20 % because he doesn’t keep the sales or own the business. I am tipping the cost of gas - I think that’s reasonable.

No salt, no fun.
