Anyone have any experience or thoughts on these. Seems like a great idea on the surface- less room, less noise and exhaust and the joystick control and position hold. I understand they are a little more to maintain than conventional engines. Was curious if anyone has used them and their thoughts.
I apologize if it has been covered before. I used the search feature but it only returned like 1000 references to Pea Pod.
I have run a boat a few times with the Volvo penta pods paired with the D6 engines. You already hit all the benefits…lack of noise, exhaust fumes, and very easy to maneuver. One more thing I noticed was a clean wake when trolling. The owner of this boat loves the joystick controls… says it makes him look like a pro at the dock. I think the downside to this set up would be maintenance/repair costs. From what I understand about them…the pods are designed to shear off if you happen to hit something. Im sure there are others that can chime in about them but from my perspective, I can take them or leave them.
Thanks for the info. Had not read about the clean wake. Really like the idea of the lack of noise and exhaust for cruising with the wife and friends. Would like to say I don’t need the joystick for docking but that would be lying.
Jarrett Bay yachts made two boats with 'em. Back to v-drive inboards as standard equiptment per the Hull Truth website…VP Pods not even listed as available.
OBX Yacht 26’ with pods been sitting for sale in local Cape May marina for 2 years now. Priced very reasonable. Has the Seakeeper system too. Using sailboat stands to hold her up in the air.
