Finally got the chance to tie the polar mullet that was in the Jan/feb issue of American Angler. I really like how they turned out. I gave a couple a test run in the saltwater aquarium in the lobby at work and I gotta say, if I was a fish I would hit it. They really do have a great swiming action due to the polarfibre. They are light and will be the perfect fly when you want to keep the fly high in the water column and land softly. I added a small rattle to a couple of them and while they do sink somewhat faster, they still go ALOT slower than a clouser.
The specs as per the mag (I fudged a little):
Hook: Tiemco 811s, Sizes 2/0 through 1
Thread: Danville Mono, size .006 fine
Underbelly: White Polarfibre
Wing: Gray Polarfibre over white polarfire
Overwing: Peacock herl
Flash: pearl krystal flash blended with smelt blue krystal flash.
Body: E-Z body braid, size large in natural color
Eyes: silver prismatic stick-on eyes with black pupils, size 3
Glue: Devcon 5 minute epoxy.
