I have a Polar 1788 flats skiff and I’m thinking of making a major modification.
I’m thinking of taking out the cooler/seat and using that space to complete the rear casting deck and install some flush-mounted storage.
Ignoring the typical questions, such as “how are you going to keep your beer cold?” and “where are you going to sit?” would you use marine plywood, or star board, or what to do it?
Also, I’ve never seen anyone that makes a latch/storage compartment for this type of mod. I’ve seen the latches, but they are designed for access under the deck. I’ve never seen one with a tray underneath.
I’m going to have the guy that did my poling platform do a leaning post instead. I never use the seat.

</font id=“Arial”></font id=“blue”>I also have a Polar Flats 1788 (2003). The only modification I have made was to cut Fountainhead solid surface counter top material 1/2" thick to cover the area under the cooler seat so it sits up some and allowed me to install a drain to the transom. I cut another piece to cover the transom area to use for storage for buckets, etc. while on the water. I also installed a pedestal seat mount on the bow platform and a trolling motor plug in the bow storage area for my bow-mounted trolling motor. All I have to do to access it is to pop open the deck plate on the bow platform and reach down inside and plug it in. My trolling motor battery is installed under my console. Anyone else out there familiar with these boats? Have not seen but a couple an didn’t know much about them when I bought mine but it was in great shape, motor was still under warranty and the price was right.

Hey Little Tuna!
Did you ever finish the work you were doing on your Polar Flats? If so, I’d love to see some pics.
yeah…id like to see something too…thinkin bout doing something similar to mine.
ft worry.
I have added a cover with a hatch over the area in my transom so I can put stuff back there and still get to live well valves, etc…, I am installing a fuel/H2O separator and have bought new gauges to redo my console. I’ll do pics once I finish.
