Ok, just trying to stimulate a little discussion on here…
Kayak Forum Poll:
What is your ideal tide scenario for kayak fishing? </font id=“size1”>
Is fishing around a high or low tide a deciding factor in your trip?
Or do you not even check the tide charts and paddle up wappoo cut 3hrs into an outgoing tide?
I am partial to high tide and typically try to put in a hour or two before peak tide so I’m riding the current both ways. Although catching an outgoing current to low tide is a great way to cover some ground and get out to kiawah/morris/jetties and scoot back when it turns. Though, I usually just fish around high.
I let the fish make that decision for me. If the fish I’m after are more prevelant on a tide I fish that tide. If it works to my advantage so far as paddling with the tide all the better. I’m really a fisherman first & a paddler second. I got into the kayaking thing so I could fish for fish I otherwise can’t reach. I enjoy paddling & being able to sneak up on fish. But it’s truly a means to an end. To paddle for the sake of paddling really doesn’t do anything for me.
I don’t know about tides…but I am with you on the fish 5 days work 2 !!! Lets send an amendment to congress:smiley:
If my memory serves me corectly…that is “cubsfan” from KFS…I belive in Tampa Bay.Has anyone else seen this pic. before ?
I usually time the tide so it carries me out and back… if travel isn’t a problem, then I prefer being on site when the tide starts going out from high, or being on site when the tide starts coming in from low. In other words I like to catch the tides when they first start moving either way.
