My dad claims excessive animal waste, and runoff ingeneral. Will keep fish and shrimp from being able to be eaten. I haven’t even gave it much thought. What do y’all think? Didn’t find anything on DNR website.
If they close oyster beds that would be a sign. I also think it might depend on where you go - near the ocean such as BB away from the rivers will probably be OK

according to Livingston’s and Carolina Seafoods at mcllelanville, oyster and clam beds are closed from what I was told yesterday…probably for the next several weeks…

it’s a big ocean, it will clean up fast
as long as you cook them you will be ok. how much salmonella is on raw chicken?
Not trying to be sarcastic but I do want to make a point. I don’t cook my shrimp to an inner temp of 165 degrees so I am not sure that logic applies here. In any case I contacted DNR they said no concerns reported involving shrimp but DHEC would make that call. Called DHEC. The lady I spoke with said they do not target shrimp and could not be certain they are completely safe but she agreed with the logic that if there were a serious concern, they would issue some kind of warning to be on safe side. I am going tonight…if we get some and they’re not glowing I’ll try them and let everybody know.

Ate shrimp from BB last night and they looked, smelled and tasted fine. Although my left middle finger has been twitching all day!
Sounds good. I hope everything is good. I was putting the castnet in my mouth a lot today. Over half a cooler in the Bay. Big shrimp too:)
Did it taste any different? with all that water it should was clean pritty quick
Shrimp are not filter feeders like clams or oysters. They feed on small particulate matter it would be about the same as the fish. I’ve never heard of anybody getting sick from contaminated shrimp.

Aren’t shrimp kinda filter feeders? I know some species are but couldn’t find anything specific about brown/white shrimp. They eat various small particles in the water.
There are a lot of really cool shrimp out there.
First, Most, Biggest
Plus shrimp are able to move away. Oysters cant.
If it fly’s, floats, or, friggs, rent it!
Went out last night myself in Chas Harbor. Brought a 1/2 cooler home. Mix bags of tricks with some jumbos in there. Not ashamed one bit. Not scared to eat them either. Not filter feeders at all.
I’ve had three meals of shrimp since last Sunday, caught near Edisto after the big rain. No issues yet. This isn’t the first time Waste Water plants have had an influx of water they couldn’t handle and it made it into our rivers. Think about back in the day of the Dinosaurs, they made much more waste than we do and the oceans were higher in life than today.
Think about how many people would have to “poop” to amount to what one whale does in the ocean.
Also think about what the farm raised oriental Talapia, shrimp, shell fish, eel, and other seafood imported into America Eat:dizzy_face: I’ll take some shrimp out of our sounds right now any day over that!
Edit: How about shrimp caught over bait?! I’ve mixed bait balls and if you don’t wear gloves that stuff doesn’t wash off, it has to wear off. Talk about nasty.
There are probably more contaminated shrimp at a single Red Lobster than in lowcountry waters. Those cheddar biscuits are good though.
How many trawlers do you see that stop dragging? Shrimp should be fine!

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Sam’s has big boxes of those red lobster biscuits. They’re good! I plan on topping of my freezer this week. See you guys out there:)
