Has anyone used a product called Poly Weld? It touts itself as a glue that can attach HDPE (starboard) to fiberglass. I am thinking about using it to attach a piece of starboard to the transom of my boat for mounting transducers. I would rather drill/screw into the starboard than my transom. Thoughts and reports on it’s usage would be appreciated.
BTW there is a kit called stern saver that sells for $50 bucks that gives you a small piece of starboard and a few drops of glue. I have lots of HDPE and the Poly Weld is only $15 bucks.
Never heard of it. I’ve always used 5200 around the back of the HDPE block and 2 Stainless Steel #10 screws to hold the block to the transom. Fill the holes that the screws are going into with the 5200 also and then tighten really tight. On one of my old boats, I countersunk the screws and then filled over the heads with thickened epoxy. Not sure if that did any good or not, but it made me feel better at the time.
What RDW said. And a small piece of starboard and a few drops of glue for $50[:0] Dang man, I can send you a small piece of starboard for free. Smear it with 5200 and screw it on. I wouldn’t trust The Poly Weld. I trust 5200 and 2 screws. It will last as long as you do.
I have plenty of HDPE, some 5200 and bunches of stainless screws. I recon two screws that are well sealed would be better than an unknown glue. What started all this was a smoking deal on a fancy side scan bottom machine. Those things have a rather large transducer and I plan to beef up the mounting arrangement. Again, thanks for the guidance.
BTW CL, nice work on those M14 stocks. As someone once said, “the only Woodstock I remember was on an M14”.
