Pompano in the surf

I really wana stick one of these guys OTF this year… when do they roll in? Anyone know or seen any yet?

Check the Surf/Pier fishing reports from last year. I think I remember some guys talking about Pomp’s in the surf. Even had some pictures… I think.

Picked up a few in the surf last fall out at lighthouse inlet. Ate a dead shrimp, I think normally they prefer the mole crabs which have been kind of lacking out there since the last beach renourishment.

Need clear water and mole crabs… Try an unrenourished beach after a few days of light east winds.
Short, bright orange or pink, heavy, supreme hair clousers work in fl. on intermediate line, fast erratic stips. Will get some bycatch.

Russ you could always create a mole crab fly … Sure some trimmed, spun, and weighted deer hair might do the trick

I tied upa nasty little crabby-critter… used craft fur so it’ll sink better then deer hair… I did one of those too just in case… now I just need sumptin to throw it at…

lets go get em man, we can go to edisto in a month or so and they’ll be there. That way we can finally get a chance to fish together

Lemme know when they are there… I have never fished there… I am off on Mondays and Wednesdays :wink:
