Has anyone here ever used jigs for Pompano as light as 1/16 oz.?
In looking around at what’s on the market, the lightest I’ve found was 1/8 oz, and many in the 1/4 to 1/2 oz. weights.
I’ve been looking at pouring some light jigs, and picked up some size 2 hooks, but looks like the only mold I have that the hooks will fit, that might be suitable for Pompano, would be a Sparkie style head in 1/16 oz.
I’ve tied flies for them, that were fairly small, but had never seen any jigs in 1/16 oz. I’m wondering if that’s because they would need ultralight spinning gear to cast, which I doubt many use in the salt, or if it’s just not enough practical application for jigs that light. I’ve caught them at times on fly tackle, so am wondering if it would be worthwhile to give these lighter jigs a try. Maybe a two jig setup?
Has anyone here used anything that light? Thanks!
